Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice after slightly overfilling the griff on the oil change. I'm about 5mm above max on the dipstick. Run with it as is or try to drain a few 100ml out, I guess the only option is to try to let a bit out of the sump plug without dropping it and losing £60 of fuchs finest.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

It's actually common advice for track days to overfill by that sort of amount., to help avoid oil pressure drops on hard braking or turning.

So it won't do any harm and you will use it in the next 500-1000 miles at a guess.

Mine leaks it too, so I often slightly over fill and have done for ages / lots of miles !

That's five to ten fold biggrin Don't they all use a litre every 1,000 miles? (all mine have)

Agreed. Mine did from new, and never really varied from that.
Some say less, some say more.
My rebuild seems to be very similar to the original in that regard.

I recall the dealer telling as me part of the handover instructions to expect that level of usage and that it was because they had such large bores.
I politely pointed out that my heavily modified 7.5L Chevy BBC regularly saw 8000rpm and used less than half of that, but no better explanation has ever been forthcoming.

Bill, mine is having an oil change next Monday, so I will monitor it more carefully after that.
It's only 10,000 miles old, was built by Rob, and while it uses a lot more oil than my 4 litre ever did, I think I have had to top up about a litre, possibly 2, since the last oil change in September, 4000 miles ago.

I will watch the levels and log the usage and report back at the end of the summer.

I am using 10w60 by the way. Coud that have anything to do with it?
