Hi guys

after a long time looking, on Saturday I finally arranged to travel 270 miles to view and drive a car at a well known dealer. 4 hours later I got a call saying they had sold the car that afternoon. Gutted does not begin to describe the feeling. So the search begins again.

I'm looking for a late model Griff 500, don't have SE money so can rule them out although I did take a close look at Mr Mojo's ad.

Anyone know this car http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/t... or anything about the dealer P J Davey in Norfolk, they seem to specialise in Jap stuff so do they know their TVRs?

TVR MADS have this one which looks beautiful but just not sure about black http://www.tvr-mads.co.uk/W185WRV.html

Anyone know of any cars likely to be coming up in next 3 months of this sort of standard. I'm not keen on bright reds but apart from that quite open minded on colour combintions

Any comments/observations most welcome

Unlucky with the viewing, plenty of choice at the moment though....

That one is strong money but looks great - moonraker black is always better in real life than in photos imho

Enjoy the chase - drive as many as you can and take all advice on forums with a large pinch of salt (including this post) thumbup

Black one looks cool, though the interior is wrong. The dash should be same colour as door surrounds and not door cards so it flows around the car banghead Why did so many get it wrong?

A Griff in black is one of my favourite colours. Nearly bought one myself and the reason I didn't buy was not the colour.

I'm not a fan of the aluminium dash, which shows what a personal thing it all is, because there are many who can't wait to change out the walnut veneer dash. confused

A personal thing indeed. For me, the walnut dash is too vintage car. I happen to agree with macdeb that the interior of the black car doesn't flow well, but to suggest that it is 'wrong' is, well, wrong imo, the person who spec'd it obviously thought it was right.

TVR MADS sell new Griffith veneer dash and heater panels sets at £240.00 delivered. CentralTVR (Midlands) and X-Works TVR (North) do so many, they can change over the old & new, whilst you wait in circa 3-4 hours.

There are plenty of trimmers around the country who can change the door card trim quickly and relatively cheaply.

The walnut veneer does look great in combination with some of the bolder interior colours (that blue/purple you often see in yellow cars for instance) but in my case the combination with Flint grey all made it a bit '1990 Lexus' for me - the stainless steel really does look far more like it belongs there. A far more compelling reason not to replace the cracking veneer with same back then, however, is that the way it is implemented (glued to a steel backing), the new veneer was surely to go the same way sooner or later as I drive the car open in nearly all weathers...

I like the factory basket weave style dash, particularly when it's combined with the leven parts. Harry Metcalfe had a nice metal dash in his 500 but I don't know if it was factory or aftermarket.

The griff looks better in vivid colours imo. I had a silver Chimaera and got bored of the colour quite quickly. Would imagine it would be the same with a black.
Good luck with the search.

That looks great in black. If I remember right, the Moonraker black has a nice fleck to it too. Must be worth a viewing!

Thanks for the comments guys,

I'll probably have a look at the black one even though I'm not sure about the colour as it's only 70 miles or so.

No one got any comments on the mica blue one or know PJ Davey in Norwich?
