Hi after messing around with cars (mainly older vehicles - classic's)all my life - I find I have been drawn to start looking at Griff's. I have been on PH in this section for a while now. However I thought the best place to get info buying tips etc. would be the TVR Club - and then attend a couple of local events chat to owners etc. (I am in Shropshire)

Is it correct (or I am missing something) that I must actually join the club i.e. pay a membership BEFORE I start using the forum and joining in? Please advise - thanks

Mark

The best buying guide used to be the Steve Heath Griffith and Chimaera book, get the 2nd Edition.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Griffith-Chimaera-Stev...

It used to be available from the club office - although I only spotted the S series one.

The TVRCC forum is only available to members - and is not as busy as here. wink

Do join the TVRCC for the social side, or the magazine, or discounts to say Classic Silverstone. The TVRCC forum or buyers guides would not be the first reason to join.

I'm sure V8GRF will be along soon...

So not wanting to disappoint anyone.... here I am biggrin

I'd agree with the statements above. Yes the forums on the TVRCC (and yes they are members only) are quieter than here which is a shame as they used to be much busier, but that said so did the ones here. Many contributors have moved on to new media such as Facebook for their chat which is just the way of the world.

The real benefits of the cub differ for different folk but again as mentioned the social side, magazine and discounts on events and insurance can often pay back the subscription easily.

It's probably worth you visiting your local regions meeting and speaking to Griffith owners there. http://www.tvr-car-club.co.uk/regions/uk-centralen...

If you have the time it will be worth your while attending the TVRCC Burghley Horse Power event that's coming up on April 13th as you'll be able to see a large number of Griffiths and hopefully talk to some owners there which will help you in your buying decision. Details of the event can be found HERE

Do what I did, go to a few meets first without joining up and meet the people, have a chat to folks and decide what you think.

I did that in 2008 and now 6 six years later I look after a number of regions in the SE.

The only point I would make is that be aware that each region has their own "character" driven by that region.

Some regions are very much a car club feel, with lots of tyre kicking and discussion on cars.

Some regions are more of a social club than car club.

Others are somewhat in between.

Be willing to adapt to the nature of the region you attend and you will be more than welcome biggrin

Thanks guys, sound advice from people "in the know" just what I was after.

I guess meeting - discussing, driving and finding a Griff is my initial list of actions...many thanks.

Hi Mark

There is a Shropshire meet here 2nd Thurs of every month: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Normally a chap turns up in a Griff 500. Try to attend if you can, I'm in Shropshire too.

I went from a couple of Griffith 500's to an Elise, I'd love another Griff as a stable mate but will be very careful picking my next one, my 1st Griff was the best, never went wrong, I sold it to a chap in Newport Shropshire, BTW the TVR car club is based there, my 2nd Griff gave me some problems, all sorted by the time I sold it.
I'd say PH is the best place for free advice but the TVRCC is worth the fee, it's a brilliant club.
