This is whats happening.

Go to car for first time in a week. Get in, turn on and off we go. No problem.

After 5 min's I stop for some fuel.

Get back in car and its wur....wur....brrooooom. It seems to turn over slow, then pause then turns over slow again before firing up.

I'm assuming its starter motor related but seems odd as its very intermitent.

I would have thought that if the starter is turning at all then its probably working ok. Sounds more like not enough juice gettting to the starter. What battery voltage does it show when engine not running? Whats your voltage reading when the car is moving? Should be over 13.5 otherwise its an indication the alternator may not be charging the battery properly. I'd check the 100amp fusable link first.

Just sounds like a flattish battery. 5 mins of driving is not enough to put back what you have just taken out during cranking, let alone to get it back up to where it was a week previous. Just an excuse to go for a longish drive, or more boringly, put it on charge over night.

You do use a battery conditioner?

The battery would be the first thing to get checked, then consider the starter as they have a tendency to fail due to poor battery current while cranking and heat exposure from the engine.

I'll be checking how it goes after the battery's had a good charge up.

I'll try this last, it looks more and more like a battery issue.

I was actually trying to say that it was a battery issue. You should check the battery first, if its at a low voltage, rectify that (by charging/conditioning). If it was indeed poorly charged, find out why. Check its charging properly. If its not charging properly check the alternator belt tension, then 100 amp fuse, then finally the alternator.

could well be the battery but on these cars the earth strap from the battery to the chassis can get a bit corroded if it turns out not to be the battery

I believe lazy has put a new one in.

Must admit sounds like the Battery.

Poor old lazy hasnt had much luck with starting his Griff.

Simon, I've think you've got me confused with someone else. I've never changed the battery and I've never had a problem starting it!
