As many may know my press car J524 MHG is running on 5 stud spiders (18" rear 16" front) and currently has Goodyear F1 GDS3 on the back and S02 on the front.

All four need replacing, but the current Goodyear F1 Asymetrics are a tad pricy and I noticed that Falken might be an option as I have used these on my wife's 350Z to good effect.

The size I want is 255/35/18 rear and 225/45/16 front.

Any suggestions/recommendations welcome - I want a good all round fast road tyre, not a track day special etc.

Can't comment on Spider sizes as I'm running orig 15 and 16 Estorils, but I had Falkens on the rear of my 3.2 Carera ( on 17 inch Cups I think ) and found them very good. Rear breakaway was easily catchable ( 911s aren't at all forgiving when the back lets go
Toyos on the rear and older Dunlops on the Griff and very pleased with them.

Contis M3s all round on my M3 and again very pleased with them.

Continentals get my vote too, or the Toyo option are a decent price. Had problems in the past of sidewalls breaking up on the Falkens (not fitted to TVR tho').

Hi Steve.
I realy can recommend the nexen n8000.
Good price and good grip in the dry and especially in the wet.which was important for me (and my griff)
bad points are a bit more wear than others. But for that you get a lot if grip.
and the edge between grip and loosing contact is a bit smaller than standard.similar like uhp tyres.

Thanks guys will check out all these options. I run budget tyres (accelera)on my daily drive Lexus LS460 which is a big, heavy but very fast car and they are very good. Cant help thinking the old values we attach to some 'quality' brands are no longer all that worthy! Probably all made in the same far eastern factory by the same people with the same rubber...!

I'm just starting using rainsport 3 after good reviews by tvr owners. I have 16 17s. Can't comment how good yet.

Steve,
Not sure how many miles you are doing but I'm not doing enough to wear the tyres out before they age expire so going with Toyo R1R's, not sure if they are availbale in your sizes. Current Dunlops look brand newe but are 7 years old. The R1R's should last around 4-5k miles which will be enough for me - A compomise between R888 and T1R. Warm up quickly so good for 1/4 mile drag strips.

Hi paul that's exactly the problem, my tyres still have good tread but are nearly ten years old! When Neill Anderson had the car it was shod with 255s on the back with a dollop of negative camber and it went round corners on rails. I had problems with dampers and clearances and dropped to 245s but since I now have a completely new suspension set up with Nitrons all round I want to go back to 255s and I just found the geometry settings that Neill supplied me, so happy days! I will look at he Toyos Ta for the tip! See you at the Growl!

with the crap weather we have had for the last few years you want proper road tyres, not track day tyres, if you want to enjoy driving the car.

As above Toyo R1R, fantastic tyre in both wet and dry... bit soft on the side walls compared to my favoured Kumho V70A track tyres, over come by playing about tyre pressures

Hi Hoover hope all well with you. Going to the growl I assume? smile
Toyos looking a bit dear, but those Nexen8000 look very reasonable at £90 from Oponeo.

Agree with the above (FFG and Hoover). I'm running Nitrons too and, combined with R1Rs, I can't see you needing anything more for the road.

...but no Nexen available fr the fronts! In fact there don't appear to be many brands that do both tyre sizes that I need, although running different brands front & rear probably inevitable with these spiders. Falken do a 453 for the rears and 452s for the front though.
