Brass screw replacement

I'm sick of trying to get this blasted thing off. Anyone got any suggestions of a replacement I can remove by hand instead of a wrench type tool? I was thinking of something along the lines of the oil filler with a wider handle area to ease purchase.
It's got to go.

It's brass! Make something up and silver solder it into the slot! Not sur of clearance under bonnet. But bit of Blue tac on top of the screw will squeeze down when you shut the bonnet and show you your max height of your tank top "add on".

Which brass screw are we talking about? Swirl tank? header tank?

Its a potetial Leven accessory, I'm surprised thay haven't done a replacement already. The swirl pot brass screw is a pain. A wide alloy cap would work well, it wouldn't need to be that thick, especially as the thread is in a raised neck.

Maggit - there's a nice VWG blue plastic one on the expansion (nearest the radiator) and the other has this damn brass jobbie.
Rich - I know it will cost but the thing is sh1te. I do top up the water (or at least check it) as the car is used daily.
I'm surprised Leven haven't done something too (its not ally though is it!!).

Usually just a large flat bladed screwdriver is all that is needed to remove the brass plug, and only needs to be removed when filling and bleeding the system.
Topping up is done via the expansion tank with blue cap.But unless you are loosing coolant, topping up should not be necessary.

I know the one. What did you want? A square or hexagonal head? In brass or something else?

FFG - I wonder if you are topping up the water at the wrong place . I also top up the water and this goes in the expansion tank with the blue plastic VW cap on it. The only time I every needed to remove the brass screw-cap was when I replaced the otter switch and I wanted to check that no air had got in the system. I wonder... have we just saved you a lot of bother? Rich...

Probably.
This would make life easier. Bit late now though as the slot now looks like 2 V's joined together.
Note to self: try reading bible before doing anything.

Maggit - Hexagonal would be better so I could use a socket. Brass to match original. No rush though as I'm topping up via the VW cap now. Speak to you soon.

IIRC you ask 100 Griff owners which tank to top up; you'll get 50 saying one, and 50 saying t'other

I normally use a screw driver on its side, doesnt really have to be done up so tight.
If you still struggling how about trying the Locking wheel nut reomers you can get from halfords. Its like a socket with a left handed thread inside it. they come in too different sizes, one might fit and should cut a thread on the brass easy.
Or drill a hole through it from one side to the other and stick a metal rod through??

Well, used to use the expansion pot til I was convinced otherwise. Trouble with the other one was getting the top of, until VW very kindly left a Snapon tool in the missus' Golf after a brake recall. Cheers VW!
