You spend your time wondering why certain lights have come on and what that noise you just heard was. Is there really a problem or is it just having fun with you? Especially when it goes off.

Yep, conversation on way to LM this year,

'ooh look that light has turned from red to green'
'yep'
'what does it mean?'
'it means now we have an unknown green light rather then an unknown red light'
'ah'

and as for heaters, you have two choices,

1 my feet are boiling and my hands are freezing
2 my feet feel like they are in a nuclear reactor and my hands are freezing.

enjoy.

ha ha ha!
That light change means that the led that changes colour is working.
(was gonna give the right answer but thats just dull!).

As for the heater thing, try fitting a smaller front plate. Makes the cabin so much cooler in the summer and keeps the engine cool.

Just wish I had found out before my feet melted off.

lessons learnt on steamed up days.... the drivers side window does NOT have a vent pointing at it, oh joy.

Which means that when driving with the roof off outside of summer your right hand freezes! Hence the reason I keep some gloves in the Griff despite what the "tin-top" drivers say about them! What do they know? Rich...

Er ok.
So far Ive got hot (ish) air out of the vent on the right centre of the dash. I havent actually noticed warm air around feet.
Whats the dull answer for the oo the red and green lights are working?

I think rather laughaly the 'oo light' is the ice detector.
Green it is above 3degc outside temp
Sort of Peach colour it is between 3 and 0
Red it is below zero

actually

Green, the car has been running for at least 200 miles
Red / peach, have you considered filling up with petrol/is the boot open/how is the oil/change gear?

I thought:

Green: Pretend not to notice girlfriend looking at you and making obvious shivers
Peach: Turn up music so you cant hear her asking for the roof up
Red: Game over, put the roof up or its no fun tonight!

(PS: Music can be turned up by stretching the right leg)

I think my Griff must feel the cold as the green light comes on way above 3 degrees.

Perhaps I'll buy it a scarf for Xmas :-)

Aha. Time to get your head in the footwells with a torch (a position you will become familiar with over the months / years). Close the vent in the passenger footwell, open the vent in the driver's footwell.

I thought green = 5deg - 3deg, reddy-orange = 3deg - zero, orangy-red = car control practice time.

This is what it says in my handbook.

In use the light will illuminate green if the air temperature is 5 degrees or less, yellow/orange if the air temperature is 2 degrees or less, and red if the air temperature is 0 degrees or less.

I must admit the accuracy is crap. I think it takes the temp from the wind chill factor as the air rushes over the sensor(wherever that is)and not the ambient air temperature.

Right then, so we sorted the lights out. Ish.

What the buggery is the button underneath the dash by my left knee? It doesnt seem to do anything.

The 2 rocker switch buttons by the I II III heater dial...what the hell do they/meant to do actually do? I hear electic whine when pressed, nothing happens. What unexpected delight is my Grif actually doing that will be suprisingly sprung upon me when I least expect it?

Now then, about driving the beasty. They are a right contradication arent they? On the one hand a seriously macho mobile, meaty clutch, meaty steering. The gearbox is interesting, needs to be meaty to shift, but also need a delicate touch to get the best out of it and to ensure smooth progress.

Oh and does anybody else find themselves walking along maybe at work or when shopping and suddenly find themselves thinking "Ive got a Griffith" and spontaneously grinning and giggling out loud?
Or is that just me?

The button is to switch the dashboard lights on/off.
The rockers direct air up/down and change the temperature, in theory. In practice they don't affect anything very much.

Aha! Thankyou. I had some vague idea they were something about the temp. but they seemed to do bugger all!

Thanks for the button, as the dashboard lights seem to be crap anyway, thats another button that can join the ranks of the of no great imporance!

Oh and another lesson learnt today. Window wipers and washers. Far as I could tell from the stalks, the washer should come on if u pull it towards you. Er no...thats seem to be the horn! What have I got wrong? Oh and the wipers r crap!

The "whirring but nothing happening" is the servos which control up/down and hot/cold. I remember which way round by thinking left to right "Cold Screen / Hot Feet" but I've heard a couple of ways to remember this - anyone else care to offer theirs?

What is it that's not working? Up/Down or Hot/Cold
Press a button and find the servo which is whirring but not doing anything then have a good look at it. You are going to have to adopt the "TVR Prayer" position and get your head down the passenger footwell. They come out easily so don't be afraid to undo a couple of screws and the arm and pull it out.

If you can make sense of it, have a read of a previous posting of mine here, it might help.

A piece of advice, TAKE IT EASY.
Remember how much you love it and how easily they break when they hit something.

Little bit of paper in the glovebox with cold/hot/up/down scrawled on it - works for me
