Hi Guys,

I've booked my Griff in for an MOT next week with a local garage. I'm not sure how experienced they are with TVR's so I was wondering what I need to mention to them.

I'm aware they need to know the rear number plate is legally back-lit, but is there anything else? I thought there was something about testing the brakes causing damage to the diff?

Yes let them know if they don't know already, that brakes should be tested on the road and not on the brake rollers.

Thanks. thumbup What exactly is the problem with braking on the rollers? I can't see how it causes a problem, unless it is the additional resistance of the rollers stressing the diff?

As the diff is a limited slip type the brake rollers could screw it all up, so they should pick this up from the DVLA website (my MOT guy did the first time I went with the Griff a few years back, as the screen info stated limited slip diff). My MOT guy uses an in cockpit deceleration gauge and does a short road test. He never really bothered about the rear number plate until I said it was backlit. If you have a friendly guy he will let you look underneath whilst it is up on the lift. Make sure your wipers and washers are 'run up' and tried before the MOT as they can be very sluggish if they have not been used for a while. Good luck mate, Pete

Thanks everyone, I take some reassurance from the fact that the DVLA website should advise them, but it's good to know in advance so that I can make sure they are aware. smile

Show them how to get in and out of the car.

Also might need to show them which buttons do what on the dash

Wasn't aware of this. My Griff went through Mot in N Ireland y'day for 1st time in my hands. Tester was aware of jacking positions and most other things as had tested Chims and Griffs before. No problems and no advisories, but brakes tested on rollers!

I think my garage tested the brakes on the rolling road last year and I am due another test shortly, will it damage the diff?
Should I insist he does not use the rollers?

Depends on the brake rollers, but if in doubt they can use the Tapley meter.

I went to one MOT station and they insisted that they use their rollers as they were OK for LSD, so I went to another that would do it on the road.
