answered my own question http://www.clever-trevor.net/TVR/Parts_details/L00...

doesn't look anything special - is there a cheaper equivalent ?

Its on here. Your local motor factors should stock it for just a few pounds, its a fairly common part. Just give them that part number.

is this it maybe http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fuel-Filter-vw-Golf-MK3-...

ebay suggested it when I keyed in the part no, but the descriptions says 115bhp - I guess this is just the golf power not the capacity of the flow of the filter.

A new fuel filter really helped on my one.

mine is over due, and I'm attempting to fix things that might be tempted to break on the classic le-mans outing.

OK - now I have the filter - where do I find it on the car ?

Space is tight in the garage and its raining, so some help would save my knees !

thanks

Above to the left of the fuel pump and it's plumed in after the fuel pump outlet, behind the passenger rear wheel. It's buried up and a little awkward to get to.

couldn't ask for more clarity than that, though of course access with the body on looks a different proposition !

Alex, tell you what, you come and use my 2-post lift, I'll show you where the filter is (and do all the other jobs under the car) and in exchange try your android device on my Griff - worth thinking about....? Pete

Pete,

no problem with the plan, just finding time as per usual. Are you local to Bicester ?

Alex, Pangbourne, about 40 miles from Bicester, a nice little drive. I'm not back in the UK until 11th July but it's an option unless you change that fuel filter before then. Pete

I purchased this one. Fitted it yesterday. Easier with the prop out!

Christian, I fitted the same one, the FRAM G3829 and to confirm the one I took off was exactly the same (not a FRAM though). Do a search on the web for <G3829 Fuel Filter> and you get loads of hits, with prices all over the place.

Before I do anything underneath the car, I almost always take the exhaust off, it makes it so much easier to get at anything. The clamp bolt that holds the filter on is a bit of a sod to get to as far as I remember. Sorry, can't remember the size. Pete

No worries Pete. I got it fitted okay as I already had the prop out, which enabled me to slide it out of the bracket front ways. I had a Bosch one in there originally and it was pretty much identical to the Fram one I put in. I fitted new stainless hose clamps when I put it back as the originals were a pit of a pain. Prop back on now. Just waiting for new drop links to arrive, so will put those on and the ARB before refitting the exhaust. Just having some fun with the engine mounts.

Christian, actually it was more directed at Alex but still interesting, two ways of approaching it, exhaust and/or propshaft. All useful info for the next person who changes their fuel filter. Pete

There should be an age rating on showing chassis images like that...

Prop or exhaust off, either way not the 10 minute job it was on my old Xr4x4, so instead of fitting pre le-mans, it will go in the spares box in case its needed.

thanks for the tips
