....the words of Mark Adams this afternoon!!!!!!!!

OMG it's nuts

Been at Austec this afternoon getting remapped after my new 5.1 John Eales engine had been fitted.

The Power run......

Max BHP 290
Max Torque 346

These are the AT THE WHEELS FIGURES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring on a totally dry day so I can attempt to get that power down!!!!

That's enormous power, brilliant!! Better take care getting used to it.

May I ask what the cost was for a new 5.1 shortengine (since I may have to go down that route myself if I'm unlucky). What other mods have you done to get to this sort of power?

My engine ended up not just being a 5.15 short engine, totally reworked heads,a new fly wheel, new clutch because it was a brown spring and only good for 300 ft/lbs of torque and mine was pushing out 297ft/lbs at 1000 revs on the bench. So nearly a whole engine. Oh and the engine now has its own breather tank coming off each rocker.

Top end already rebuilt with 218 cam. Bosch Masarrati Injectors, Bosch Aitflow metre, ACT double plenham, ACT smooth air inlet, MA tornado chip, de pre catted, and coated exhurst, magnacore leads, bosch coil. Re-conned starter.

So that basically everything new!!!

It cost far too much, but a short engine should cost about £4500 on its own.

It also sounds awsome as I have debaffled it to.

Some mods work

Sorry i didn't meet you Smirnoff, Unfortunately i need to be there tommorow, as it happens there's a V8 Developments 5.3 there with similar extras to yours, can't really go "playing" 2 days in row, well not this week anyway.
For thoughs unaware to put it into perspective compared with a standard car Smirnoffs is +90 lb ft & +70 bhp, with this spec of engine you will get more value from the upgrades.

Excellent, Marks favourite phrase for ....by feck its got a lot of poke is "Its a monster" .
Quiet few Griffs coming through now with obscene power, enough to frighten any of the more modern cars .

So when are some griffs going to get some real LS1/Ls6 power, there seem to be quite a few chims getting the treatment now.

don't want to say yet, but it's with me now and will be going into the car in Jan/Feb.

it WILL be quick and is spec'd for racing...not just power. Don't THINK there's another one around, but there will be a few soon. You heard it first here.

(It'll be up there with the biggest and baddest tho)

I take it that yours is not Rover V8 based, could I guess it's one of our American cousins?

Wouldn't steal my thunder, we are just all proving that the Griff is the best TVR, original or modded!!!

The more big numbers out there the better!

Are you seriously saying that you have fitted a new 5.1 lt V8 engine and its producing 290 bhp at the wheels ? if that is what your saying then open the bonet and count the cylinders I think you will only find 6 in other words you have been had.

allowing for normal losses (40bhp or so) that means that he's got atleast 330bhp!

THATS in the car not on a bench with piped air, exhaust water etc. And, thats at the "acknowledged" rolling road not one with a pumped up o/p figure for the Lax power boys in their golfs. And it soundslike he had some traction issues as well. (this is normal)

most standard 500's only produce 275 IF you're lucky.

smirnoffs talking ACTUAL horses and not TVR's mythical 340 donkeys!!!

a very nice engine done by the right people...

ooops!

I was looking for torque (horses pull caravans), it clocked 405ft/lbs at its best run, thats 25% up on a standard griff, fancy a quater mile against mine? You will be the one wondering where 2 of your cylnders have gone!
