In mucho rain today I realised the wipers do not work on intermittent setting or park - they just stop when turned off.

Is this a common/known issue and what the solution ?

What is the motor off ?

Check relay on fuse board first, make sure it has not worked loose .

It's most likely your wiper park switch, it's a common fault on TVRs and is easy to fit and cost less than £10.

Before you going spending any money check the intermittent wiper variable knob on the left hand side of the steering wheel cowling is wired up/solder joints broken....... had this issue a few years ago where I knew the wires had disconnected (pulled off due to my hamfistedness), and a garage tried to charge me for a replacement, which I kicked up a stink about as I knew the cables were not attached.

Part of the way down the page.

Easy job on the Griff. Just remove the wiper motor nuts, remove the two connectors and loosen the coupling to the drive. Then just slide the old one out and new one in.

I would say that you need to treat the cause, not the symptom...but then I would, (I see these day in day out...they all come to me with NEW 14w! park switches on).

not sure I understand - what is the cause ?

water ingress, poor design, old age, under use ?

Yes, all the above...The basic item is good, the siting is poor (your wiping the screen washes the item externally), the design is for a internally mounted unit (there is little if no water sealing externally or internally), cars are getting used less (this leaves a damp hot motor to easily rust inside),OE item were last made in 1999.
BUT even then there is no reason for the park switch points to fail unless it is loaded beyond the spec. (the park switch is simply pin driven off the can on the gear inside the gearbox) IF the switch fails and the wipers are working well up to that point, there is little chance that the internals to the motor are in any better condition. Serviced it at this point, it will save the cost of an armature and magnets.

I had a problem with my wipers a while ago (remember the epicly wet Chatsworth about 3 years ago). They didn't park then they did and sometimes would stop mid screen when wiping and all sorts of other things as well. Took the wiper park switch off (easy to do) and cleaned all the connections and dried the item with a hair drier to get it dry inside as well then put it back on and made sure that it was well blasted underneath and round the connectors with spray grease and all has been well since so well worth doing that - it doesn't take too long.

ok - so I replaced the park switch and now they park but no intermittent working.

I note the comment about checking the wires on the time adjuster.

is there a timer box hidden somewhere I should check over ?
