Ever come across this?

Had the griff about a month, great fun no problems. But went out to the garage today and the alarm was sounding. Went for the car keys and tried to turn off the alarm but no joy. I have an Optimate attached so switched this off and alarm stopped. The car is locked, I have a hand book so tried the key (the other way in!). Still can not open the doors and if I switch the Optimate on the alarm goes off. Is this a battery fault or worse?

Any and all help appreciated

PS I am now into the car (don't ask), but there is no electrical system or alarm whatsoever. Is this the battery or is there some type of fuse link? If it is the battery it went dead less than twenty four hours after I last used it. Is there something else I should be checking?

First thing to try it to disconnect one of the battery terminals for 10 seconds or so and then reconnect it. This re-sets the alarm and you should hear a chirp from the alarm as you reconnectthe battery. You can then decide if the battery is comptly knackered. Rich...

your battery is flat.

you may have a drain causing the battery to drop, is there a courtesy light on (footwell-roof)

accu/optimates take three days to fully recharge, was it fully recharged. it'll only take 14-20 days for a fully charged battery to drop via the alarm/clock.

battery testers are about £10 from halfords. LEDS tell you if battery is stuffed, charging is ok...or if there's a drain.

Think mine has gone also.

Press the horn.

This may sound funny but if the battery is dead but hass a tiny bit of life in it then you'll hear the horn very faintly. At least this way you will know if the battery is dead or if its just a main fuse.

It does sound like the battery though.

Not sure if the horn works with out the ignition so I'll go and check now for you....

I have had the battery out and charged it. The battery is 2 years old (found the receipt in the large file that came with the car). I don't think the battery is as good as it could be but I am not convinced that there is not another fault draining the battery. I have a friend arriving tommorow morning to test the battery etc.

Fixed hopefully. A new alternator and battery which was still under warranty.
