Gents,

I've just fitted some leven pedals which was a bit of fun in itself! I have noticed that I have about an inch of play in the throttle pedal and don't have any further adjustment to take out the slack.

Ideally a new throttle cable should be fitted. I was however thinking that I could cut the nipple off at the top of the pedal and slide an electrical wire connector on and clamp it further up the cable to remove the slack.

Is this an acceptable method? Will it last? Or should I bite the bullett and just change the cable Assy for a new one.

Thanks in advance.

When that cable snaps and leaves you stuck in the arse end of nowhere, what do you think you'd give to have a throttle cable in your spares pack.

Buy a new one, swap it out and keep the old one for emergencies.

New throttle cable standard emergency tool kit item for me, along with tyre repair in a can, fuses, fan belt etc, everything I carry fits in the original tool bag weighs nothing and you will forget its there untill you are on the side of the road.

Not many places will have one on the shelf so even if you can get to a garage chances are slim they will get the part same day.

My car's previous owners cable broke in France and he spent his hol's waiting for a cable to arrive!

Last time I checked they were around £30ish so not the most expensive item IMO.

Mine went last year, David Gerald's did not have one, order only, had to drive to Power as needed car for an event. £55! However best Mod as it took out the unnoticed before slack resulting in the power being more instant. Glad it did not go a few weeks before on Le Mans trip. (Don't forget to feed through string attached to old cable when changing.)

On mine I bought a cable nut. Pulled through the slack at the plenem then tighten there. Good for the last 50k. And yes spare cable in back up spares for trips!

As for a spare to carry in the boot, a Halfords pushbike brake inner cable will get you home and cost only £3.00'ish.
