Just for the record and to kick off some more gossip, my Twin Turbo Grif is down a Austec Racing missing an engine! It is on the bench in bits. It was intresting to see what a great job TVR Power had originaly done inside back in 98.

Since the famous Austec rolling road day back in September with the NOS Grif & others, it is time for more power and a remap to sort out the fuelling.

Paul & Mark Adams are at work, the rolling road is warming up.

Watch this space...........!

PS. I know the car is still for sale in classifeds but the more I have driven it and now enjoy the anticipation of what is to come, I might change my mind..... don't tell the wife!

Gotta say Martin I saw your baby in the classifieds when I was looking and the only reason I didnt buy it was because I actually had to think to myself that I was stupid, but not *that* stupid Love your insane motor!

Martin - is it a regular driver - or just a full out mad blast type machine? What is the weird scoop for? Spoils the lines. Do you have trouble getting the power down? and how bad is the turbo lag?

I've had a few blown rover engines as daily drivers (4.5 & 5.0) and lag isn't an issue where you have some capacity in the first place. Those engines have been around the 9:1 c/r and used 7-9 psi tops. The lsx has been built on 7:1 but with some tight clearances. I don't expect any lag, given the settings and capacity and expect to start with 15 psi boost.

Traction before was a big problem though. I could get up to 3rd and still be at the lights if it was damp felt pretty stable though lol. I have addressed some of those issues so shall have to wait and see what happens when I get rich and have the time

Regular drive but not every day. I use the car quite often to scare clients going for a blast before signing an order.

Scoop is for cooling altenator (solved overheating issue by upgrading it) and draws lots of attention in rear view mirrors.

I have fixed the traction issue with launch control with a RaceLogic Professional system and factory setup. It is still a handful! What is turbo lag? You can wheelspin in 5th at a ton.

Engine rebuild progressing...new cam etc..we will soon be looking for a fixed dyno to map the engine on before returning it into the car. This will be better for managing the heat in testing. Then it will be finished on the Austec rollers.

Chassis has been fully resprayed as access is easy with the engine out.

With the great feature on Dave's NOS Grif in this months Sprint, I can't wait to try out what Paul & Mark Adams have in store for mine......!

Keep watching this space

what does the rebuild consist of martin?

General freshen up? or were there areas you wnted to improve. Things have moved on quite a bit over the last 4 years or so, but i can't imagine there was much room for improvement on the hardware side.

I guess mapping and fueling would be the main area to improve on the delivery.

Never seen the car, so looking forward to it.

We are awaiting delivery of some new pistons & rings from the USA in a few weeks. My old set of Cosworth pistons are going to make good ashtrays unless anyone wants them.

Engine will then be run up on a dyno for testing and remapping.....before session on Austec rolling road for final blast.

All this cold weather and salt on the roads is good as it keeps me happy whilst I wait. i would not be driving out in conditions like this.

I can recommend a set of ductile iron Total Seal gapless rings to stick on your nice shiney forgings when they arrive.

Did you order 9 or 10 pistons as a wise precaution? If you damage 1 the yanks won't replace it as they usually like to produce a minimum order of 4 pistons.

It's a big pain in the arse if you haven't got a spare. They carry 'shelf stock' for popular engines ie Ford & Chevy but a rover of any capacity won't be included. So, if you design something a bit special you need at least 1 extra piston. Accidents happen.

Went down to Austec this morning and took the car out for the first time on a quick run up and down a few slip roads on the M23. 4000rpm max just to get the feel.

Mark & Paul have worked some magic alright...I am speechless. I am not going to say much as can't stop smiling even now!.

Little bit more tweeking to be done and we are going to bolt on new turbos.
