What is the best manifold and exhaust for power as well as noise?

I can't believe that whipping out the cats and leaving those huge empty chambers is the best for gas flow.

Similarly, I hear that the RV8 likes a bit of back pressure...

So, what is the best combination of exhaust manifold and silencer for BHP, working on the assumption that the car will be properly set up on a rolling road after the job?

When I was into old Minis, there was a fairly simple recipe of Maniflow LCB and RC40 exhaust, which was regarded as the best set up.

Is there a similar rule for RV8's?

Cheers

Not really, they don't seem to respond to cam/exhaust tuning in the way that most engines do, and the TVR engine bay doesn't really allow the smooth flowing curves that your exhaust designer would probably recommend. As long as there is not excessive back pressure or restriction I don't think there are massive gains to be had. The ACT sports system seems to be rather better than the standard TVR 4:1 system but I don't think either would claim to be the ultimate. (That title probably goes to the GT40 with its crossed 4:1 manifolds, but I don't think you'd get that into the engine bay!)

You could do worse than the ACT / JP stainless manifolds and silencer system, but it's expensive!

in my experience, de-catting and manifolds add very little in the power stakes, but gains are.

Freer revving
better quality
originals often need replacing anyway
better heat displacement (Griff inner wings etc)
MORE V8 NOISE!

I guess Tims (ACT) is the best as its the latest development and its legal.

Cam coating an original can look cool...and its alot cheaper!

Any ideas how loud a total de-cat would be with a sleeved exhaust? As I'm not majorly bothered about track days this has a curious attraction to me? Specifically I was thinking of fitting the ACT manifolds minus the cat. My thinking was "this should sound the bollox"!!!!

VERY VERY LOUD, louder than a 450 SEAC with side pipes that i hapen to know, its the only griff I know that had a SEAC driver put his fingers in his ears, when being overtaken..........and have him say F..K thats loud, and coming from a big wedge owner thats impressive...

So correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're trying to tell me it's loud right??

kinda loud, his profile says its 128db.. and I don't doubt it at all having heard it.

I think I recall him saying that on one his RR sessions Mark adams asked "if he'd like flames on the overun, and if so how long". It is one very fast, loud griff..
