Griff at anglesey
Discussion
A short video below of me in my griff 500 chasing down Jo briars in her chimera 450 in torrential rain during the sprint at Anglesey on Saturday. Enjoy. Needs lots of volume

Mathew. Thanks Here's one from the following day - this was my winning run fortunately in the dry. It looks pedestrian but it was anything but when in the car. I am working hard to be smoother and quicker this year. So far I have won 5 out of 6 events in the TVRCC speed championship and 4 out 5 in the Classic. Marques championship so it's going rather well.

Hi Jes, weather looks a bit better for that run. Smooth is always fastest but unfortunately never looks fast on film. Subtle things like the windscreen wipers lifting off of the screen hint that you were going pretty fast though, and of course the result.
Pretty impressive record that, I know you normally quite convincingly win the TVRCC Speed Championship pretty much every year. I didn't realise you were competing in the Classic Marques Championship as well. Maybe you should give up the day job and race for a living!
I must do Anglesey at some point, don't think you could ever get bored of that view!
On the subject of videos looking slower than they are, a good way to get around that is to overlay telemetry onto the video. I have been experimenting with Harry's lap timer, using the smartphone as a datalogger. So far the only footage I have is of appallingly poor driving at a very wet Brands Hatch last year. It is very embarrassing how slow I am driving but I didn't want to write the car off and it was very slippery. Ignore the driving but check out the telemetry...

Hey Matthew, that logging software looks really useful, got any more info on it? How does it tie in with the GoPro?https://youtu.be/h7KbH_o_LXw
Hi Howard, I have not had much of a chance to play with it yet, hence the only video I have is the one of me crawling around Brands. The GoPro integration is OK as it will send a remote start command to the GoPro via WiFi to sync the logging data with the video. It is a bit of a ball ache as you then have to upload the GoPro footage to the smartphone to overlay the telemetry. The end result I am impressed with, I like the POI information with the corner names and the highlights of how fast you were around each corner and on each straight. The likes of Racelogic IMO the overlay is not quite as good and the video quality is nowhere near up to GoPro standard and of course costs. The advantage of the Racelogic is of course you press one button and it is all recorded onto one SD card for easy editing.... Harrys Lap timer unless you use the phone camera you need to import the footage manually from the GoPro.
If you have a more modern car, or ECU with ODBII you can sync revs, throttle angle and a load of other stuff as well...

Hi Howard, yup rain again - deep joy. I am at Lydden with the CMSCC also seeing relatives in Kent. Are you at Mira or Lydden?
Matthew - you video/data looks very good - quite a nice set up - I use the racelogic datalogger but mine is 11 years old so it doesn't synch with video which is a pain. I just get the data downloaded onto a laptop but it is very useful for lateral g forces so you can see which corners you are at the limit of grip or where you can go faster. here is a screen shot of the data from that dry run at Anglesey on the earlier video.
The red line is speed vs time as you said earlier the wipers lifted off the screen - that was at 125mph on the long bend. the black line is more useful as it shows lateral G forces. road tyres (A list) get up to about 1 G lateral before they lose grip and you slide. B list go up to about 1.3G perhaps slightly more on a good grippy surface. you can see form the data that I am pretty consistent at 1.4G in the bends which is just over the limit so there is no more corning speed to be had.
you can see the track - bottom right and if you click on the trace it shows you your speed and G force at any point. There are loads of other functions but I switch them off and keep it simple.

Thanks Jes, I think whoever puts the cones out has tightened up that righthander after the speed trap- a couple of us had high speed spins there last year. We shall see (& now I down the competitors excuse book).
Good luck at Lydden, hope that the track has been well scrubbed since the rallycross!!
