Fluid inspection cover.

Has anyone modified the fluid inspection cover positioned on the o/s inner wing, so that the black silicon sealant is no longer required?

I have a 'seal' of closed cell foam rubber (from VWP) which is stuck on the recess in the wing, the cover is screwed down onto this. I did run sealant around the side of the foam, but the cover is removable without the need to reseal. No leaks, so it seems to be ok, lasted for a year now.

I was so happy, have made a cover for the brake fluid reservoir and just about to fit in a similar way.

Done similar with my headlamp access covers. Additionally, if you grease the body where the cover screws on and sandwich the silicon rather than cacking it all over the already-in-place cover, it removes, with the silicon in tact, next time, and can be refitted with no new silicon.
