Ok I have heard a lot about pro tec / gaz gold nitrons but no mention of Avo,s ? now I had these fitted to my old griff and they were very good but that was 10 years back my question is obviously technology has moved on ?

so were do I stand with my old AVO,S then compared with the new stuff ?

looking for middle of the road fast driving with the occasional sprint circuit biggrin

TIA

You will need adjustment.

Speak to Gaz, spec what you want and go for a set of Monos specced with 450/400 but not any lower if you want to do the odd sprint.

AIMHO of course.

I replaced my very old soggy 'Avo's of nearly 20 year vintage a couple of years back with the Protech adjustables. Excellent quality, really good price, fitted perfectly and what a difference. For my sort of driving and the roads I use they are perfect. Regards, Pete

A couple of the sprint championship guys use protech and say they are very good. Nitrons are, I think, by far the best for single way shocks. Spring rates are also important and depend on what you want to use the car for. Bear in mind the valving needs to suit the springs.

Out of interest Jes, what spring rates do you run on the sprints,,, if you'd rather not give away trade secrets on here I'd understand, are you running much harder than say 500/400 springs?
I'm just wondering just how far away from road settings your cars set upto?

I went for the Mk4 Bilstiens for mine.

I was impressed with the performance of my original Billies taking into account they were 13 years old and still working rather well. I didn't fancy adjustable suspension as I know I would be forever fiddling with it. Also I hear a lot of stories about people with leaking or broken dampers etc (not just Gaz some Nitrons as well) and they are all less than 5 years old. It is very rare that people ever report issues with the original billies and most of these or knocking on 15 years old now.

If I was tracking the car more often I would have gone for Nitrons or Ohlins. My car is 99% of the time used on the road, I only do about 4 trackdays a year so I went for the Billies. They actually perform very well on the track all things considered. Interestingly enough BMW, Audi, Alfa all fit Billstiens gas mono-tubes to their performance motors.

Just had gaz fitted in mine, it's far better than the old bilsteins but finding it a bit harsh over bumps.
Booked for a proper set up shortly but can't see that helping on the harsh department.

Hi steve, I run 700lb front and 550lb rear. That is probably too stiff for a car without aero and uncomfortable on the road. It seems to work well on a smooth track though. Having said that the aero makes no difference below 70 or 80mph so on balance I think the ideal would probably be about 600 front and 400 to 425 rear to get grip round slow corners.
