As we don't have boot lights I thought you'd be interested in this.

I got one of these and soldered the ends to one of my LED festoon bulbs which light up the number plate.
Stick a bit of velcro on the back and bob is your uncle.

Although you need your lights on to make it work I didn't see the point of putting in any kind of switch as it uses next to no power and doesn't get hot so it shouldn't damage anything in the boot. But I tuck it out of the way just to be safe anyway.

Andrea has some boot lights on the 500, one each side, which also Velcro on the underside of the boot either side of the lid. They are operated by a reed switch (I think) on the underside of the boot and a magnet is attached to the boot frame so when the boot opens the light is activated. Not sure where the feed for the reed switch comes from now as been on 10 years.

Ha ha, I was just buying one to do this with and it reminded me about the boot light and that it might be useful to others.
You might know FFG would have 2 with all the fandangled switch stuff too - blooming show-off !

It was a David Beer kit and I asked if he could do 2 lights (one for each side) rather than 1 as Mrs FFG was using the car daily at the time so needed some light in the boot. From memory its connected behind the flap behind the passenger seat.

Interesting scratchchin just to add to this DO NOT use Scotch Locks they are the spawn of Satan himself yikes it is never a good idea to breach the insulation part way down a cable for this kind of thing or back probing/break out diagnostics whatever frown I speak from many years in the trade

I thought the "boot light" was just the back of the lamp clusters when the side lights / headlights were on?

Rather than the eBay thingy, get a strip of LEDs and put them along the top edge - far more effective smile

You know, I thought that about the lights for the number plate too.
But then I went to Le Mans with the tent in the boot in some god awful weather one year and was very lucky the boot bulb only burned through the tent bag and not the tent itself. Asking around after that it seemed the carpet covered the bulbs on the inside on all other cars I looked at.
