Hi

My car has failed its MOT because the headlight isn't working. "Sidelight" works and main beam works but on dip there's nothing. Can you replace a bulb or do I need a new headlight unit and if so where can I buy one; on google nothing is coming up.

Bulbs are H1, 55W, get 'uprated' ones (can dig out the invoice for address ?) accessible via hatch in inner wheelarch

Thanks. I am a bit of a mechanical gumby - will I be able to pull out the old one and put in the replacement?

Are they both out?

Might be worth checking fuses/relays too

Just the left side so hopefully that means no fuses involved; I do my best to avoid ever having to go near that mess in the passenger footwell.

Drove back from the airport late last night and thought the lights were even more crap than normal. MOT first thing this morning came up with the explanation.

I fitted these:

Far better than standard H1's

You'll need to remove whichever front wheel is appropriate and then the access panel in the wheel arch to get at the back of the light unit to enable you to remove the bulb cover and then the bulb. Expect there is an old thread on this somewhere.
