hints and tips required-changing rear lights

ok,so im about to change my rear lights as my replacements arrived this morning.how easy/difficult is it?im worried i wont get a nice appearance with the seal using the sikkaflex.is there any room for adjustment when mounting them?am i about to undertake a real faffy pain in the arse job,or is it quite easy?cheers-mv.

I'm curious, what are you replacing them with. Photo ?
I have thought about changing the unit for one of those LED rearlights.

my car is a lte 2000 year and as such,comes with the std cav lights.im swapping them for the gsi cav tinted ones which were fitted to the earlier cars as i think these look much nicer,especially with a dark colous like mine(starmist blue).

Real faffy as the mastic takes ages to clean out and then the tool you use slips and scratches the paintwork. Use plenty of gaffa tape to protect the paint and take it easy. Better to do in a nice warm environment.

Agree with Steve - take your time.

I used a scalpel to remove the old sealant, and despite being under surgical conditions, still managed to lift some paintwork!

Mike i dont think its down to age of car, more like what was around. My 94 had your type and my 99 has your new type ! Are you removing the amber filter, makes them even better, but you probably knew that ! Now dont mention relays !

I did mine last year, I found it pretty simple but time consuming. You'll prob have to trim down the new lights to fit, if you compare new with old it will give you a reasonable template.

BB, I'll try and knock somein up for the pages, think I may have lost alot of pics when I formatted me hard drive and the backup failed D'oh! What format is best for you html, word, notepad etc?

As you can see a fair bit was trimmed of the new light to make them fit, when i installed them and was happy i used masking tape to fine line the gaps and used sillicone with a tiny hole and wiped off with a damp cloth.

OOPS to many photos OH well you will have sort them out, SORRY
