I'm thinking of fitting one of the above and note that some cars have heat reflective stuff along part of the length. This is sold (by ACT) as an extra by the foot so - do I really need it/alternatives(?) and if so how much - maybe only the part of the hose near the exhausts?
Thoughts appreciated!

When I bought my ACT smooth bore hose the reflective tube was included as part of the kit.

IMHO I can't imagine you would notice any performance difference whether you had it or not.

Once air is passing through the hose at speed, ie when the engine is sucking as much as it can get, do you think you need the reflective cover?

The cover is needed to preserve the rubber, the heat from the manifold will destroy it otherwise. I bought this stuff as it has adhesive on one side... and was cheaper:

Still working on my Griff after 4 years.

Interesting thought re the hose being affected by the heat. As these hoses will have been fitted on some cars for a few years now has anyone experience of that?

Make sure you can fit it around the top rad hose.. some cars differ in this area?.. I had to drop my rad inlet to where the stat sits to get better clearance. and then moved it back up at a angle as it appeared to reduce the rads performance?... Whats starts as one job and all that smile
have a look at my old posts wink

Will depend on use I suspect. At the time I used my Griff on a daily 40 mile motorway run followed by traffic so it was getting as hot as it can under the bonnet. After a few weeks I noticed the hose nearest to the manifold was starting to show signs of distorting/burning, hence why I fitted reflective material.

Thanks for the heads up John re the possible rad problem. Is the filter on your car the original flat one? I understand the pipe is slightly different dependent on the filter - but then maybe the situation re its closeness to the rad top pipe is common to them all? Have others had the same issue as it looks as if it might push in the induction hose which isn't what's wanted.

99 std flat filter in the nose... my mates fitted fine but as you see with mine and the pipe on, it crushed the pipe 1/2 shut.....

That looks very tidy! I am going for the ACT pipe with some insulation near the manifold/exhaust; should be sorted shortly ...
Thanks for the inputs
