Door trims

Tried to remove door trims.

Followed bible, got confused.

The description for the Chimera door trims is much closer to mine than the Griff description - ie at least three nuts, a screw behind the ashtray and the trim is in two parts (leather section and carpeted section). Self-tappers 'buried in the carpet pile' hold the carpeted piece to the door. I couldn't get to one of the nuts anyway, so the trims stayed put - but are mine fitted strangely, or has the bible got the Griffith and Chimera confused?

Anyone got these off? How?! I guess I could cut the carpeted panel to get access to the most rearwards nut, but obviously I want to avoid this, Any tips?

Sounds like you really need some help mate,I don't now if a bible will be of any good to you though.

Nope just they do seem to be a lot of variations with differing numbers of buried screws/hidden nuts etc. The last couple I took off were different but it was essentially hunt the internal nuts and hidden screws.

Not sure if the difficult nut is the one furthest away or one that is hidden inside the carpet. If it is an internal one. then sending a small child into the door is allowed...

Hi Griffter,

I had the same confusion when removing the door trims on my pre-cat as well, seems like yours are fixed the same way as mine, ie 3 bolts and ash tray screw.
I did manage to get to the rear bolt though it was a tight squeeze through the speaker hole,prepare for scratched arms.
I dont remember any other hidden fixings not allready mentioned but it has been a couple of years since I took mine off. No way should you need to cut the carpet. Good luck with it.

Hi Grifter,

I have recently just pulled my doors apart to overhaul the window motor and guide. It is pretty straight forward:

It does come apart in two sections, firstly the leather part needs the three bolts removed from inside the door, role up the sleeves bend your arm in with a small 10mm spanner and start searching. Mine where located 2 on LHS as you put your arm through speaker one up top and one low down, the other which is horrible is way over on the RHS.

Once the leather part is off, the carpet screws identify themselves usually by the small rust marks but not always. I took six out and they where in various locations but mostly situated within 20mm of the outside of the carpet frame (if you know what i mean).

I think the real requirement is that it is essential that you take a fair bit of skin off your knuckles and the back of your hand on the shards of fibre glass inside the door. Once you have the appropriate number of wounds it will give in and all come apart quite easily.
