My Griffith has the interior stripped, and some wiring work underway. Rats have made such a mess of all our TVRs over the winter that the insurance wrote them off, and I purchased back the salvage.
Deadline for the Griffith is June 17th to be on the road again in time for the first car show of the season on father's day.
Will never store my cars off site where I can't check in on them frequently ever again!

The logic is if they pay to fix it and then on some hot summer day I can smell residual rat, they will be on the hook to set it right. If they write it off and sell me the salvage, then once fixed it is my problem (or the shop's problem) if the rat smell lingers; they simply don't want the liability. They didn't brand the cars, so they aren't the Canadian equivalent of CAT-C or CAT-D or whatever they would brand it as in the UK.
With that said the difference between write-off value and salvage-value was fair.

OK, wiring has been done, and car runs again. Rat smell gone. New carpet underlay was going in today, and from there the carpet will be next. Should look like a car by the weekend - I hope so as it is committed to attend a charity show on the weekend.

And this is what happens when rodents winter in your car - a shower of seed husks blew out of the exhaust all over the shop floor when first started.
