Am I right in thinking the first wiper switch position should be intermittent setting ? Should the twiddly knob on left of the column cowl adjust the delay ?

My first switch position does nothing, not sure it ever has but I try and avoid the rain generally. However now touring round the dales the wipers are needed and intermittent would have been handy.

Correct & Correct.

Sounds like your big blue relay has fallen/knocked off your fuse board.

It could also be a fuse.
My Chim has 3 fuses covering the wipers. F17 normal wipe, F18 Park, F15 wiper delay.

Only TVR could use three fuses for one wiper motor...

The intermittent delay switch on the column cover (the twiddly bit) does go open circuit (the wires to it or internally) quite often, usually as a result of column cover removal/replacement. If it's shot internally (I think it's 10KOhms) here's the part needed:

What a fantastic PH thread!

Covered all the possibilities succinctly, first and most likely one turned out to be correct in this case, but all possibilities are there for us all to remember for the future.
And we know what cured this one thanks to the OP confirming, and are happy he has fixed the problem.

Happy daze.....;)
