Well after about 9 years in my ownership, whilst always being placed on a acumate when not in use, my battery seems to have died, last week acumate packed up so used a charger I had hooked up to my bike that seems to disagree with my battery, so now it only shows 11.4v, have purchased another accumate, and left it on charge whilst I'm on holiday, but suspect its new battery time, so what's the one to get, and any tips to change it out?

Easy to fit or a faff? Presume nsf wheel off, scrape mastic off battery box and remove that way?

I have fitted two before so it was quite straightforward. Didn't have to take the wheel off and no mastic involved. Just be careful with all the wiring so that nothing shorts. First time I did it I shorted out the 100 amp fuse somehow.

Believe me - if I can do it, anyone can.

Squirt plenty of oil & leave to penetrate onto the 2 bolts that fix the battery box thru the floor as they are exposed to all the crud from the road.

Don't forget to mark the position of the battery box with tape or marker before unbolting it.

Excellent advice...I used Tippex! smile

Replacing the battery is not as easy as it is in most cars, but with the help of a trolley jack, I find it pretty straightforward.

By the way, do yourself a favour and purchase the best quality battery you can afford. I purchased an excellent Bosch S4 Car Battery Type 069/072 (4 Year Guarantee) from eBay for £70.80.

Before I replaced the battery box screws, I created a pad of roofing silicone mastic around the holes in the underside of the car floor and screwed the bolts down onto the mastic, finishing the job with a dome of mastic across the top of the bolts, eliminating the risk of moisture penetration and subsequent corrosion.

Incidentally, I created a kind of pouch made from carpet to sit above the battery, to contain the wiring loom, relays etc. It seemed a sensible way to stop electrical stuff moving around and also minimised the risk of accidental damage or short circuits. The battery box should have a GRP cover secured with a couple of self-tapping screws, then a sheet of carpet underlay folds over the top of the batter cover and I pushed the carpet pouch into the small space left above the battery box.

Having owned the Griff from new, I have replaced the battery a number of times and learned that you may have to faff round a bit with the alarm key fob to reset the locks etc.

Good luck! smile

Check the orientation of the positive and negative terminals and also make sure it will fit in the battery box.

I bought one of these earlier in the year and have been very happy with it

I'd go for an AGM battery. Measure the battery box (I bought an ABX AGM AXD26R which is 260mm x 172mm) and buy the highest CCA you can get. Most have a 5 year warranty.

Before you buy a battery check to see what battery you have!!

I bought a 072/069 (261 x W 175 x H 220) battery after looking on here, when i came to change it i found it was too big so had to buy another battery 075 (243 x W 175 x H 175)

P.S. if you want the lager battery i can do you a good deal!
