After a snapped rocker shaft back in May on the way to Goodwood. The Griff is now back on the road with a freshly built engine. Picked her up this evening and planning on getting some miles on the clock tomorrow.

The engine was completely rebuilt with new top hat liners (the old ones where showing signs that they might slip)
Rebalanced crankshaft
new cam (885)
new followers, pushrods, rockers, shafts, valves guides, clutch

Hopefully there's a bit of sunny weather left for me to enjoy

Very nice Colin. Top hat liners and rebalanced crank shaft are a good shout, addresses the 2 weak areas of the TVR 500 engine. Full rebuild should guarantee you many more years of trouble free motoring.

Who did you get to rebuild the engine?

Could you have got away with just replacing the rocker shaft or did it need a full strip down?

Powers did the machining, Calvin Morgan at Wilton Morgan rebuilt the engine; he's local to me and he's done quite a few in the region, knows his stuff.

I could have just replaced the shaft but I wanted to know what caused it and by the time Calvin had stripped it down and found a stuck valve, he'd also found a suspect liner; it seemed silly not to do it all. The cam was shagged too. It would only have put the inevitable rebuild for maybe a year. Timing wasn't great as I had to pass up on some great weather and I'd signed up for some Sporting Bears events too which I had to miss.

Bank balance has taken a pounding this year with the rebuild and the respray and carpets so hopefully I can just drive it for a while and not have to spend too much more on it
