I had the same on both sides of the Chim when stripping the loom.
It doesn't go all the way through.
If you lift the carpet you will see the two accsess holes.
Tools needed to remove foam,one x long screwdriver,one x vacuum cleaner,(or hoover as you say over there)
Why do you need to remove the foam to change the switch?

Because the foam fills the box section behind the switch - so the back of the switch is inaccessible, and it's held in by the foam if I try to withdraw it in the normal way. I've lifted the carpet but there are no holes in the inner sill behind the switch. Thinking about it it's most likely factory because the original alarm was fitted very shortly after delivery (ie days). The original alarm tapped into the passenger courtesy light circuit in the sill, but the driver's side in the loom behind the dash. The original installer had inserted diodes in the loom where he connected the alarm. So logic dictates that he would have tapped in just behind the driver's side switch if he could - it's a lot easier to access than the loom behind the dash. Presumably, like me, he couldn't get the switch out without a load of hassle, so he went for the loom instead.
Maybe there's not so much foam in the passenger side sill hence I can't see it?
