500 diff

Hi, I've read that all post-96 500s are supposed to have a BTR diff, but how do you identify if it's a Hydratrak unit? I want to change the oil, do the standard BTR and the Hydratrak use the same oil and, if so, what is the spec please?

Ok, so a bit more web surfing has given me the answer on oil spec, and it seems that the oil is the same whether the diff is a Hydratrak or not. However, I'd still be interested in how to find out if my car's fitted with a Hydratrak. I suppose I could boot it up a straight bit of road and see how it behaves but there must surely be a way to identify the unit... or not?

Yeah, unfortunately most (all?) images inaccessible now - but wondered if the discussion about "grooves" might be useful in identification..?

Yes, I'm going to have a look at mine, but the discussion didn't seem conclusive anyway. There's a tag attached to the filler cap which I can't see properly in situ so I'll get that off too and see if there's anything helpful on it, though somehow I doubt it.

Now that I know that the same oil can be used whether the diff is a Hydratrak or not, I don't need to know but, having asked the question, I'd quite like to know the answer. As to the oil, http://www.racetechdirect.co.uk/rd101-tvr-car-part...
