Very cold heaters in my Griff

I've got no heat coming into the car (1992 4.3)
The valve is opening and closing OK and there is heat in the pipes in the passenger footwell on both sides of the valve.
The heater is blowing - albeit pathetic - but its not even vaguely warm.

Any ideas? I'm really fed up of freezing. Its ruining my enjoyment of the car and the Mrs wont even consider going anywhere in the TIV because its so cold.

have you acually tried flushing the matrix yet?whilst im not familiar with the exact set-up on the early cars,the principle is surely the same.if both pipes going to and from the matrix are getting warm then it sounds like the matrix is blocked but they are warming from heat transfer possibly,so no water is actually passing through the matrix? also you say the valve is moving,but can you be sure?just because the motor is whirring this isnt gauranteed!lastly,if the matrix is getting hot,and air is being blown through it,then this hot airflow is obviously not getting to the vents,so check the pipework.though by what you say,this is the least likely as you wouldnt fel much air blowing through the vents with no pipework attatched.best of luck

No Mongoose, I haven't tried flushing it yet. I thought the pipes being hot meant the water flow was OK.
Then again, now that you mention heat transfer, the pipe on the other side of the valve is not nearly as hot as the side with the bypass valve.
Might go and try the flush after all then.

I physically had my head down there to check the valve opening and closing so I know thats ok.

in out pipes run in parallel with a bypass pipe, then one goes into the valve, to do the flush I take it I am going to have to come off the other side of the valve.

Off to get wet then !

Found it !
Flushed it all out - nothing but a few scraps of rubbish, so i've taken the valve and motor mechanisms out and its the valve not opening far enough. Going to realign the motor stop positions and that should do the trick.

Just going to photograph the valve and motor mechanisms first for posterity.
