Wing mirror loose
Discussion
Apart from here, I have never seen the black bit of 'drainpipe' for sale. They are only covers and they are always loose, as you have to rotate them to see the grub screw...but that's another story!!
This is a bit OTT but I think is the part you want...........

there are 2 things that can cause the mirror to be loose - the whole assembly or the grub screw. The whole assembly is basically a large bolt that threads into a thick nut bonded into the door. You can remove or tighten the whole thing by just rotating the whole assembly. if you are going to take it off remember to disconnect the wires first. if its the grub screw/alankey that has come loose its a pig to get at. my outer sleeve/cover was whole so I could not get at the grub screw. as mines sprint car I just cut it off and access as better but still impossible in the recess. someone cleverer than me may have found a way but I had to unwind the whole assembly, tighten the grub screw then wind the whole assembly back on and getting the angle right is also bloody difficult.

Hope someone can help. The black fitting on which the wing mirror sits is loose, so wing mirror turns downwards. Have reached inside door panel through speaker hole, but can't locate any means of tightening it. Anyone had similar issue?.
Hi PJP, probably Jes has given you the best information so far. The black fitting that shrouds the mirror stem is loose and is not fixed. It can be rotated so you can try to get to the little grub screw that tightens the mirror assembly onto the 'mushroom' sold by TVR Parts and is almost impossible to get to without drilling through the door. The fact that it is loose is almost certainly unrelated to the fact that your wing mirror turns downwards, so replacing this fitting is a separate issue. There a 3 reasons why the mirror is loose:
1. the pig of a grub screw could be loose
2. as Jes says, the large nut that tightens the whole mirror assembly onto the door could be loose
3. the screw that holds the 'mushroom' to the wing mirror assembly could be loose or, what happened to me, the mushroom actually sheared
There is a lot of threads on this on this forum, on this subject. If it is 1. or 2. above, I found the best way to do this was to take off the whole mirror assembly from the door by unscrewing the mirror from the door, estimating where the grub screw should be and tighten it off the car (at this point replace the black shroud) and then re-tighten the mirror onto the door.
If it is 3. then you will have to prise off the mirror glass without breaking it (hopefully), it is on double sided tape and then get to the 'mushroom' from inside the mirror.
See following thread as one of many:

I hope this helps. Pete
The mirror glass is removed by sliding a tab located at the bottom of the glass, tilt the glass up and slide a small/thin blade screwdriver in and you should be able to locate the tab (assuming it hasnt been broken off) once located push tab in either direction and the glass and mounting should come out together (just pull it forward).
Disconnect the wires for the heated mirror and the glass is out.
Lots more info on mirror removal on this thread where i tried to decribe how to get it all apart if that helps ....
