F*cking air box .... c'mon ACT !!

I acquired from Tim a smooth bore induction pipe yesterday and have been fitting it this morning ...
Having a chat with Tim he showed me a Griffith airbox and how crud it actually was ... It was one part of the car I had left to other to change and look at. So I decided that while I was at it I would whip mine out and have a look ...
Not a happy boy. Air box not fixed down, air filter covered in gunk, filter no longer stuck to the airbox ... Therefore air being sucked from around the sides (good job the AFM has a gauze)
I wouldn't mind but I only picked it up from service yesterday, and I don't reckon it's been changed on a service in 18 months given the state of it ... I do a lot of miles and therefore get serviced pretty regularly.
That's 3 different service agents who I will not name who just haven't bothered .....
I am totally fed up with service agents who can't, won't and don't do the job as well as I would do it. The only reason I use them is so there's a bloody stamp in the book for when/if I sell her !!
Needless to say it has now been fully cleaned, re-oiled and properly stuck to the airbox which is now properly fitted to the car.
Please, Please Tim can you get this airbox of yours finished ASAP as I will buy the first one off your shelf !!!

I service my own car.
The airbox is a crap piece of design on late Griffiths.
It doesn't fit.
It is hard to get at.
The filter is a nasty sticky mess.
It took me two attempts and a couple of hours to achieve a satisfactory result and I took most of the skin off my knuckles and wrists in the process.
I seriously considered throwing it all in the bin and putting a big K&N straight onto the AFM.
There is no wonder that some dealers forget to do the job...

Agree....poor design etc. Had service (2k`s worth) recently, evidently didn`t touch air filter. Checked it myself (ass of a job really!) felt like a dirty lump of lard, way too gooey and if much air was getting thru I`ll eat me at! Anyway now cleaned and ok. Except for that there "filter box/cover".....could also do with new hose...ACT did someone say? How much?

I guess i better get my arse in gear then 
, I always assumed that there wouldn't be much of a market for panel filter airboxes, until i examined the original unit, will get this sorted in the next 4 weeks, i already have the K&N panel filters sorted, i'll do a PH press release when it's ready.

Seriously Tim, keep one to the side for me !!
I can honestly say that the car was RR'ed this week and registered a 187 bhp .... rather dissapointing until as you can imagine, as before the rebuild it was doing 217 ... it was well knackered as well.
However, when they expained they just couldn't keep it on the rolling road and it was one of the best they had seen I was very happy ...
Then I fitted Tim smooth bore induction pipe and cleaned up and properly fiited the air filter and by christ !!!
The difference is definitley noticeable ...
In fact when you blip the throttle by hand you can hear the air going into the plenum, a great whoosh of a noise, but with a harder edge .... it didn't do that before .......
The engine still needs more air though .... later the summer then !!

stesrg - it looks like you've got non-original air intake ducting (exposed metal coil). I've just bought some of this to replace my intake duct, but was slightly alarmed that it appears to be thinner (maybe single or double ply) than the original - where I think a third outer ply is laid over the wire coil, hiding it. Does yours work OK - no burning or overheating intake temp issues?
