That Griffth Sound....

Is it me, or does the exhaust note take on a whole new life between 85 and 90? Im in a 4.3 pre cat, and I swear somewhere between those 2 speeds, the note just seems to solidify into deep, sonourous wall or growling sound. Absolute magic

For some reason 85-90 seems to be my natural cruising speed also...cant think why Taught the Bosche a cpl of things today, a 996 Carrera thought he wanted to play for a while, but frankly I think the sound alone just scared him

Dunno about the rest of you, but I had a 500mile weekend and dont miss having a working radio/cd player one bit, just listen to the car!

I find that around 85-88mph the engine begins to purr. Never heard this in a car before and I love listening for it.

Agree. We have a 4.0L pre-cat, and what I like is the howl that appears at about 3000rpm. Thought it was already the best, but recently fitted the ACT SS manifolds and "Y" piece. Quite unbelievable now.

It may depend on the cam fitted, but at 90 with the lid on mine is hitting that very deep note and really requires some ear plugs.

Drove back from Stanstead very early this morning and my ears were ringing by the time I got home.

Austec did sleeve the pipes last week and the car was louder than most 4.3 BV pre-cats already but now it is decidedly uncomfortable

I will definately be digging out the old motorbike plugs for longer trips.

Yeah, I find 80-85 is that magical purring moment, which is a fantastic cruising speed down the motorway.

Accelerating after that brings back the roar, but it mixes with the wind roar to make an all new "hairs stand up" sensation.

At about 130-140 the wind noise tends to take over.

This is with the roof down..of course
