High Beam Issue
Discussion
The main beam flash and the headlights switch on/main beam on positions do the same job, they both switch a supply to the same main beam wire coming out of the column switch
Main beam flash working proves that both bulbs main beam filaments are working, so It is not possible to have only one main beam bulb working when headlights are switched on and the column switch is in the main beam position
It does look as if the dip and main wires could be incorrectly connected somewhere or there is a bad earth somewhere

Thanks Paul...... Think I'll start there, as I had the cowl off to cleanup the horn connection pin/ring for the MOT
excited as just leaving to pick up Defender from Salisbury
You mean you've broke it then, Good luck with the Landy - got mine back yesterday and now need a cam!!!

I assume it's the same on a Girff as Chim. Mine did a similar thing, flash worked but no high beam.
Common Fault.
Stalk, you can't really repair it and a new one is not expensive.
I got one from a Vaux parts seller online and soon swapped them over and problem solved.
Astra Mk3 I think they are.

The high beam relay powers both the high beam bulbs at the same time.
The relay is tripped from the column switch but switched high beam and flash come from different power sources so it is quite possible for one of those supplies to fail.
What I can't understand is how you could have only one bulb working with the other dead.

I'm at a loss as well...... I'm not electrically minded either which means I ain't to good at working electrical things backwards......... luckily I know a man who does, I'll just have to give him some hard earned ££sThe relay is tripped from the column switch but switched high beam and flash come from different power sources so it is quite possible for one of those supplies to fail.
