REAR TYRE SIZES
Discussion
Hi, I'm jumping from the Chimaera forum I'm afraid but hope you may be able to help?
My car currently has 245/45x16 rear tyres and the standard 225/50x15 fronts, all Toyos, it is a year 2000 Chimaera.
I've gone round in circles with wheel styles but still prefer the BBS style wheels. I can't afford genuine ones unfortunately...
Having looked at many cars I personally think that 16" rims all round suit the Chimaera best, I tried some 17" on the back and for me they looked a bit too large in my eyes.
I know the original Griffith had 235/50x16 rear tyres. Toyos are still available in this size and if I retain 16" wheels all round they are still, as far as I know, the only manufacturer doing the o/e sizes anyway. For those of you that still have 235/50x16 rear tyres, are they appreciably smaller in width than the 245/45's I currently have fitted? According to the Toyo website they seem to be wider! Also would these work ok with 225/45x16 fronts? I believe these sizes were used on the original Cerbera too.
Regarding wheel offsets too, the standard is et35 and there seems to be loads of clearance so I am thinking of et30 which would fill the arch slightly better, comments appreciated.
Regards Chris.

All the tyre sizes you have mentioned will all be ok with original wheel sizes. Even a slight difference on offset is ok on a standard wheel width size.
I know you have asked similar questions, the slight change in offset will move a wheel in or out accordingly pos or neg blah blah.
Are you after a standard looking car or a modified looking car? People seem to be after wider tyres on standard width wheels which I don't understand.
Original wheel types are the 15" narrow fronts and wider 16" rears. Why not fit 7j et25 fronts again but 16" and 8j et33 16" rears. The et25 is a common Peugeot offset and the et33 a Ford.
Fit 205 50 r16 tyres on the front 7j wheels and 245 45 r16 on the rear 8j wheels.
