When I turn the ignition off & take the key out the electrics (lights, boot release, dials) stay on!
Ignition barrel?
I'm assuming my battery will drain as quick as it likes, so I'm connecting it to a trickle charger rather than crawl into the footwell.
Everything else seem A-ok.
Where do I start?

...so despite not wanting to crawl into the footwell, I did it anyway. Pulling the ignition relay then plugging it back in, electrics stay off. New relay needed?

What you have done does not prove the relay is at fault, something could be holding the relay in, you need to test for what voltage is at the relay coil terminals 85/86 when the key is out of the barrell

As A-O says unplugging the relay does not prove very much.

The instruments are not powered via the relay but receive volts direct from the ignition switch so that is much more likely to be the cause.

This above info should point you in the right direction, you can disconnect the ignition switch to prove it is/isn't faulty

Just got back from TVRSSW, annual service etc
Faulty relay on fan 2 which was coming on at random even after the ignition was off.
Col gave all the electrics a proper clean which has also fixed poor grounding

He gives my Griff a 'serious talking to' every year (for the last 15 years) and it runs perfectly.
Reckon it wouldn't dare do anything else!!
