I, in common with a lot of Griff owners, rely on Tyreweld or Spunk or whatever it's called as a puncture repair, get you to your destination fix. What happens though if the tyre is badly damaged to the extent that it's beyond repair? Has anyone actually used the space saver, and how did you get the proper wheel in the car? I know this sort of thing doesn't happen very often, but my annual MotoGP trip is coming up, so there'll be 2 of us in the car plus a boot almost full of luggage. Will a rear wheel and tyre fit behind the seats on the shelf?

Tried searching but no useful result.

ETA - Slime, not Spunk!

I have had two full front wheels in the boot, one front or rear will fit easily in the centre of the boot. You will just need to completely repack around the wheel, possibly putting some stuff on the rear parcel shelf. Try not to start with too much stuff. How are you taking the roof off?

I have never used the space saver wheel - my brakes are too big, so I am on 17 inch wheels.
But if you do come unstuck, try to buy or borrow a single Ford fit 4 stud wheel in 17 inch, complete with a 205/45 17 or 215/45 17 tyre. Focus or Escort sized, poss even Sierra. You might need a 5mm spacer - don't go any thicker than 5mm, there won't be enough thread.

One thing I have heard - I believe that you should not run far or fast with the space saver on the rear due to the limited slip diff. Correct me if this is wrong

Certainly shouldn't run fast on a space saver.

Won't the LSD just "think" you're constantly driving rounds bends?

Previously had cans of gunk in all the cars.

Had a blow out on the Box about 2-months ago at midnight on the M25. Gunk and the compressor didn't work.

I'll be taking the space saver to Scotland.

That might be why my 2000 car didn't come with space saver. scratchchin

But it seems from your profile that you have a Chim?? Not quite sure what you mean by your final question. The roof will be in the boot but if I needed to stow a wheel in the boot I'd just put the roof back on.

Just finding out how full the boot was.

Put the roof in the roof bag first, to protect it, then in the boot, then put the punctured wheel in between the roof and the tank, then fit your carefully selected squashy luggage all around the said contents. Job jobbed......until it rains!

No chance of getting a wheel and the roof together in a Griff boot I suspect!

That's what I thought, and definitely not between the roof and the tank.

Sorry, I have a Golfist's Griff, or Chimaera. They would fit in a Chim.
