Starter Motor - Current Options for replacement
Discussion
Good Evening Guys
After a long time away I'm back for some advice on the current choices available for replacement starter motors. Done a search for starters on PH and seems like last year is the latest info available
I want to get best cranking power (2.0Kw?) and rid myself as far as it practicable with solenoid heat soak issues
My Bosch unit is about 5-6 years old and want to escape from OEM as I'm not convinced that there's not a better after market option
Seen the Powerlite RAC318 (?). Sound like it fits the bill according to the write up but less than convincing feedback. Less drain and solenoid further from manifold. Don't mind spending the cash if this is the best option
Global Power - Cheap and reliable but as far as I can tell same make up as OEM so could suffer from heat soak
WOSP - Similar to Powerlite and same kind of feedback
London and Essex Auto Electrics 2.0kw version. Good feedback, good power and good price. No current reason why I shouldn't just get one of these
Prestolite - ? Can't find much about this option
Any worldly wise wishing to share their thoughts and experiences ?
Ive had a break for a couple of years with only a couple of handfuls of Griff days per year whilst I've been focusing on my track bike but time to give some overdue TLC and get him back fighting fit ready for some abuse
Thanks in advance

I replaced mine with a Britpart LR starter from Paddock. It's hugely better than the original and only cost around £80. There's plenty of PH discussion on this subject if you do a search.
I wrapped the solenoid/starter in silvered heat blanket as a precaution- bit of a faff but retained in position using steel cable ties.

I fitted a Global Power brand starter motor more than four years ago, my engine cranked super fast from day one and remains exactly the same today . The car has been stuck in some horrifically hot traffic jams in the South of France and many more here in the UK so I can 100% reassure you heat soak is not an issue with this starter.Near five years of punishing and extensive use proves its a reliable starter

Why pay more

Are the griff starters like the original RR starters - i.e. direct drive? The P38 starter is a gear reduction type which I would say is better - but I don't know if it's the same teeth as the original one?
As an aside, I happened to put my current clamp on the battery today - 300amps at cranking, albeit a gear reduction onto a 5.7 chevvy. Glad i'm using 60mm 400A cable.

I fitted one of the London & Essex 2kw starters along with a new Varta battery about 3 weeks ago. The starting has been incredible hot or cold, it really does spin over fast now, I think the starter was about £105 inc vat and delivery. I cant vouch for longevity of the unit but other than that it has been excellent so far

OK you've won me over COG Near five years of punishing and extensive use proves its a reliable starter

As you are in 100% mode, for my ( and possibly others in the future ) benefit can you confirm the Global Power part number ?
Be great to get an order placed in today
Cheers in advance

Just to complete this one I went for the London and Essex 2kw version in the end
All I can say is wow !
Well that’s not all actually ..... the motor now spins over like a proper car and really sound like not starting is just not an option.
No other mods so difference is 100% down to the starter motor
Tried to induce a few hot starting failure scenarios and to date have not managed to get the bugger not to start. For once I feel happy to have failed
No link to the guys or favours owed, just some honest Griff owner feedback for what it’s worth
