How many pipes in you core ?

I allways wanted one of those nice aly radiators, unfortunatly they were a bit to expensive for me. A friend of mine replaced my radiators core for a very friendly price.
My core used to have 26 pipes running through it, times 3 rows makes a total of 78 pipes. The new core has 32 pipes x 3 makes 96. It turned out that the old core was replaced in 1996 by a new one(maybe improved ??).
I'm curious, how many pipes and rows does a standard Griffith radiator have.

I can honestly say, NO, it's not a trick question. Thing is I hear people over here talking about special radiators they have designed for extreme heat areas like the middle east. I'm only wondering if this is a load of B.... or that there are realy such radiators.
Thank god I don't do nightshifts, the dayshift is enough of a nightmare....

Hi there Fred, i fitted my "second" posh ally rad this very morning, long story about being without one for 5 weeks !!! They are extremely good, the fan turn off time is less than half of what it was, in fact all today only had half speed fans. Pricey at £460 but well worth it. As to your question, dunno, the old one is sat at the back of the garage and i will take a peek in the morning.

I cannot answer your question, but i did have my rad recored last year ,I went to a local place in Darlington I wanted to recore with a four row from the standard three row I told the guy this and he said it does not work as simply as that he got the catalogue out ,there was a large selection of cores to choose from several four rows etc but he said that a three row that is listed for a range rover with aircon was the one that gives the most cooling because the aircon rad is mounted in front of the engine rad and so you have hot air going into it, so it has to be very efficient to stay on top of the job he explained the differences between the cores and said i could have which ever i wanted ,I took his advice and it made a big difference ,in the catalogue there was not a massive difference in the price of each core, as you were asking it is not just about rows its number of tubes ,type of tubes and type of fins etc sorry for the confusion regards Steve.

Ok anorak slipped on, my old one was 31x3 = 93. The new one is in place and is so much better, no need to count. Next weekend will be making an air tight seal so no air can slip around the sides of the rad.
After putting the new one in I can see what you mean by making a tight seal. On mine there's a huge gap, I will have to think of something to close the gap. My friend told me that they regularly supply these cores to people with cars prone to overheating, and this core allways does the trick. So i'm hoping it's cooling capacity will be enough for a Griffith. I'm aware of the "anorak" factor in my question, it's just that I want to know as much as possible of the cars I drive. I have been called an anorak before by Julie from Leven, don't ask...
