The Griffs been worked on for the past month at a well known TVR specialist. Had a new clutch, engine mounts and some work done to cure a small oil leak. To cover all possibilities around this I had a new rear crank seal, crucifix seals, valley gasket and rocker gaskets changed. Got the car home and found I had a bigger oil leak than before. I checked the oil level and it showed over an inch above max on the dipstick. Phoned the garage and they assured me the overfill would not cause any problems. I chose in any case to drain some oil out - I took a litre out before coming down to the max level on the dipstick. I still have the oil leak. The bottom of the bell housing is awash with oil. I’m scared of ruining my new clutch - seeking advice on likely causes of the leak. Your comments would be appreciated.

^^^^This is the right advice.
Can you change a rear seal without loosening mains caps on an RV8 ?

Sounds like rear seal. Take it back pronto, that's totally unacceptable. Hope it's nobody I've ever used!

there are 2 TVR specialists in your County that most have heard of, If they don't take it back as other Phers have said, as you have only just got the car home so surely its nothing that you have done!!! this is shocking costumer service rolleyes

IMHO,if still no joy with garage taking it back to check it, and NO naming and shaming on Pistonheads, but TVR Facebook page has no such scruples, IMHO of course.

Spoke to the garage today - they want to be helpful and are keen to fix whatever is the problem. They assured me they used seals from TVR Parts and not pattern copies but it’s almost certain it’s the rear crank seal that’s leaking. I’m taking it in tomorrow. Shame it’s a bit of a drive away but hey ho.
I now wish I’d tackled the job myself - but going away to Australia for all October didn’t have the time before it gets too cold out there in my garage.
Hopefully I’ll have it fixed by next week 😏

Quick update: The cause of the leak was the crank oil seal that was fitted in October. The seal lip was completely shredded. The part in question had no markings on it (it was red in colour) and almost sure to be a pattern copy. Disappointing thing is it came from what should be a reliable supplier of TVR spares.........
