Hi I've recently bought my first tvr, a griff 500... love it.

I live in a Brentwood village in Essex & wondered if anyone can recommend a decent, local (ish) tvr mechanic/engineer ??

I'm also after a headlight upgrade as took the car out the other day & returned at night, I live in a village & have to travel down unlit country lanes for a fair while, I had to stop as thought the headlights weren't working, it was as if someone was holding a candle in front of the car, I've seen a headlight conversion available from the old 5.75" lights to new 7" lights in new pods etc for about £600 ish, & wondered if anyone had done this or had any other solutions for this ??

Other things I'd like to do are...

Rear hood window needs replacing.
Electrics need looking at, heater doesn't work, radio works when it wants.

Can anyone recommend or help with any of the above ??

Thanks.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Griffith ownership! I'm not from round your way, so I can't recommend anyone locally who could help you - hopefully others will. However the 7" headlamp upgrade is sold by Sportmotive:

http://www.sportmotive.com/partsales/headlamp.html

You can either take your car there (quality of work is second to none!) or you can order the parts and have them fitted locally. If you do decide to take it over there, you could ask Ian if he could look at your heater and electrics at the same time.

Python Racing are in Essex. Plus there is Mat Smith Sportscars northwards.

Bodymods wise Engineer1949 is in the flatlands too.

Hi and good choice!

Before you replace the rear window (assuming it is “cloudy” rather than split / beyond repair), try using Claygate plastic polish: “de-clouds” well and even removes light scratches and a few £ a bottle.

For servicing etc, I take mine to Dan at Taylor TVR near Maidstone, which is not too far from you albeit over the crossing. I’d recommend him without hesitation. Nice guy and what he and Colin don’t know about TVRs isn’t worth knowing smile

I recently purchased a Chimaera 450 from Kerridges in Needham Market - they are TVR specialists and the customer service I received from them was second to none. Seems from a variety of reports that they have an excellent reputation all round so I would give them a try - only a quick blast up the A12 and A14 to get there from Brentwood smile

Did you buy the Camel Yellow 450 by chance?

I do indeed, it was mine before I parted ways to Kerridges. You are welcome to PM me if you want to have a chat about the car I would be interested to know how you are getting on!

I've had Sportmotive upgrade my lights to the 7" version & very pleased with the result. Lights are better and the lights fill the pods so looks good too.
