Chassis Numbers on a Griff

Quick question..

Where are the Chassis numbers on a Griff / Chimera and are they the same location on all cars ?

The reason I ask is that I have seen a few that have a number on the cross member behind the radiator and others that don't seem to have one in that location.

All seem to have the Silver chassis sticker on the body work by the washer bottle.

Maybe some have had a new chassis ? or maybe it changed on later cars ?

All should have a chassis plate on the inner wing and the number stamped into the top cross bar at the front of the chassis

If it's missing it could be either a repaired or replaced chassis

So what would you think on a replaced chassis where the chassis number doesnt exist any more, a concern or just an accepted benefit ?

Is there a colour per year as well ? ie.. chassis were grey from a certain date, white from a certain date?

Original chassis were grey/silver upto around end 96. Then tvr turned to white and quality suffered due to poor storage and prep as they got busier

What would I think if the chassis number wasn't evident... well a whole new chassis with some documentation to say it's been replaced would be a good thing, you could always stamp in the chassis number. A tired chassis without any evidence would perhaps suggest a local repair then I would be asking more questions about its background. Remember refinishing or painting the chassis may make it harder to see but there should still be evidence of the number there

Some have the number stamped into a plate that is then welded onto the top of the cross tube.
Others have the number stamped directly into the tube but will be quite faint and easily lost if it has extra paint added in the engine bay. The reason it is faint is that you would have to stamp it quite hard to get a decent indent. By the time you got to character 17 the tube would be nearly inside out.
