Windscreen fitters - my a****

Had 4 visits to A***ss as Tesco Insurance use them. Still waiting for screen to be fixed properly. First lot put screen in too low, so cut bits off bottom trim lip and stuck it on. After 2 days this came away as did all the top rubber trim. Second lot still not got trim in stock after promising it was there. Still have to use them as Tesco have paid them. Crap service!

Direct line also insist on them, they broke the rain sensor on my Beemer and claimed it was not working before, quite a game at the main dealer to fix it, who eventually fitted BMW glass resolve it.

Dickhead MOT testers broke my windscreen, I too had a crap job done by Outograss they should stick to Fiestas

the buggers cowboyed the screen on my jag the day i chopped it in for my griff they managed to scratch the full length of the front wing amongst other
cock up's luckily for me racing green were very understanding about it and didnt affect me picking up my car. you would think after the amount of screens they must replace that they could get it right

they replaced screen on mine and blamed task of re-fitting trim on sprayers who removed it prior to spraying, obviously each blamed each other till blue in faces, but the offhand manner of their branch (manager) northampton left much to be desired ie never again...

mine has a new screen in (don't know when or who) but the rubbers foul the corners of the bonnet when opening and shutting

In time this will wear the paint away I am sure.... should I leave it or cut the rubber to suit the bonnet (or do they all do this)

or should I pop down to my local place and ask them to refit it and part with some hard earned wedge

See if you can get the bonnet adjusted - that might be all that's needed. The hinging strut to which the small gas struts attach adjust for length and by lengthening these you could move the bonnet forward a small amount to clear the rubber.

If I understand correctly, mine does this. Always has and perhaps surprisingly, it hasn't worn the paint away.

My last one did this too. A scalpel and some tender trimming and all was fixed.

Strangely my first one was absolutely fine - so something in the fitting/size of the rubber used I guess.

When are you popping round so I can have a drool Steve?

Make sure the screen is a TVR screen and not a pattern. They fittted a pattern to Mac which was bigger than the TVR screen hence the poorly (to use a pleasant word) fitting rubbers. Also fitted by an oink who damaged the leather an the paintwork (which ended up costing them over £2k).
After complaining they ordered a TVR screen and fitting was much better. They also put someone who had fitted a windscreen before on the job.

PS Direct Line and Tesco are one and the same.

For those covered by Mannings, I had my screen replaced by Peninsula (indirectly) and then sent the invoice to Mannings for reimbursement, all with their blessing.

They made a good job of it as well although there are still a couple of Silkaflex drips down the door. No more milky delamination!

Hi Chaps,

just having my windscreen replaced thursday this week by RAC Autowindscreens, they 'seem' pretty confident and have done a Griff before. Have spoken to the main dealer and they tell me to use the existing rubber surround (which is a bit of pisser as it is slightly split at the top) but they are convinced that the new one supplied with the screen wont fit properly as they changed suppliers some years ago???

Fingers crossed, will let you know how I get on?!

I was reading this topic yesterday ,goes out today and gets a large stone into my screen and now I need a new screen fitted,I am with Classicline and the screen is covered I will have to ring them tomorrow and see if they insist on a company to fit the new one ,can any body recomend a company in the North east who has done a good job on a Griffith or similar many thanks regards Steve.

Just to finish my bit...got the car back today and for a change i am completely satisfied!! Martin at RAC autowindscreens in Bradford has done a superb job - He used new surround as well (which the dealer said would not fit) and it really is first class - bit of a trek for you Steve but may be worth it?? If your ins use RAC windscreens ask the branch to give Martin a call for any advice??

funny enough I rang the local TVR dealer at Hexam today they said they only use RAC auto windscreens at Newcastle ,they have a bloke there who is spot on so I rang them today and booked it in for thursday ,and they rang Hexam and ordered a genuin TVR screen ,so hopefully it will be a good job I will let every one know if it is or not,so thanks for your info I would have traveled to your spot no problem ,I hope I am not going to regret not doing so good luck regards Steve.
PS they asked me if I wanted a TVR screen or one of there own so maybe owners should make sure they are getting the proper screen from who ever is doing theres.
