gear knob remove

The gear knob (rover gearbox) is slightly scratched and "tatty".

I would like to know how to remove it in order to polish it or to replace it by a new one.

Could you kindly inform me how to proceed ?

Hi Although this has been done by my self and others the knob screws off, like mine it was a tad tight heat it up a little with blowlamp and it will come.. .

You want to undo the locking nut which butts up against the knob then the knob should undo by hand.

Where are the screws located ?

It seems there is a cable inside ?

Do I have to remove the gear gate pattern and how to proceed ?

Although their is a locking nut just at the bottom of the ball mine did not look like a nut it was blended in as part of the knob as you could not get a spanner on it a pair of mole grips was used which marked it.
The fing was tight and did not budge hence the heat, (as aluminium will expand it did not take long to free).

Do you want to remove the knob, or the whole lever? Knob is simple (see above - no screws or cables), lever rather more involved - and I've never done it I'm afraid.

stesrg - mine had a definite 'nut' - but I've got zertec accessories - maybe my gearknob is zertec too and hence a different design?

I've recently bought and installed this ...

It fits perfect, looks pretty good and its not freezing cold/red hot the first time you put your paw on it.

all of which means I've got the old gear knob on my bench. If it would be any help I can get a pic of it.

oh, 1992 4.3 although I doubt that knowing that is any use at all knowing TVR and their regular dips into parts bins.

My knob is original though
I guess I will have to post a picture of my Knob.

For reference, I had a good ol' yank at my knob this morning, and it's definately got no nuts. I just screwed it with my bare hands and it came off.
