Griffith air filter shroud/ cover
Discussion
Just performing the annual servicing and about to change air filter. Is the shroud that the filter sits in just for heat protection ?
Looking at the small opening under the car that feeds air, I’m thinking of just leaving the shroud off. Or does the shroud work in combination with that small opening in some way ?
Thanks.

It is there to prevent warm air from the engine bay entering the air filter. Clearly, if it is restricting the flow of air, it may be counter productive. On mine, I don't think it is restrictive and it allows air to come in from the grill and in front of the filter, but reduces direct air from behind (engine bay side) of the filter.
To be honest, in the real world, I don't see it making a huge amount of difference, but the only way to tell would be some before / after logging and data analysis. Actually, I would be quite interested in the results of this if anyone does it.
