What’s it worth?
Discussion
I have a 1994 Griffith 500 that I think I will need to sell shortly due to the fact I’ve been off work sick for 6 months with some form of vertigo. I dropped the car in for the Taraka conversion late November just before I got taken ill and it’s been at TVR Power ever since, the guys there have been great, they have the engine apart but have been waiting till I was better before proceeding with the build.
I’m now thinking of selling though as no money coming in for 6 months has taken it’s toll. The car has a interesting history as was sent over to Singapore first the first few years of it’s life, it wasn’t registered over there till 1996 as they had problems with type approval, this meant it has received a N reg plate, its in reasonable condition, I had a full respray in the original Jaguar Racing Green about 18 months ago by TVR bodyshop, it has some stone chips now and could probably do with another nose job, it has good Bridgestone tyres, I fitted fully adjustable redline shocks supplied by Joolz with Nitron springs, I still have the standard shocks as well so they could be sold with it, I recently had a geometry set up by Topcats Racing. Hood has seen better days, the interior is half leather in black with green carpets, dashboard was trimmed in a green vinyl leather look finish, it has 8” pioneer speakers in the rear with matching door speakers, it has the T5 box but pre-serp engine.
The bad bit is the car is Cat D registered, I have photos of the damage it was a scrape down one side looks purely cosmetic though enough to get it written off although having spoke to the previous owner he arranged to buy a new Cerbera off the garage that wrote it off
, the damage was repaired about 3 years prior to me buying.
I’m thinking I will have more chance getting a reasonable figure if I have the engine work completed to standard spec then try and sell, but if it doesn’t work out much more for the Taraka still might go for it, suppose it really depends on the work that needs doing.
I'm located in London if that makes a difference.

I also have a mini with a TVR number plate, G553 TVR, wondering what that might go for?
I believe you can buy plates in that format (letter, 3 numbers, 3 letters) from DVLA for 250 quid (probably plus VAT). So unless G553 means something special to a TVR owner, I guess something less than 250 quid.
Pum.
Are they? When I was looking for a plate all the TVR ones on DVLA were £999 or over, that’s why I bought the mini as it was cheaper to buy the whole car, I wanted it to go on my S series but never got around to transferring it, I would have put it on the Griff but need to get the mini mot’d and tax’d before it can be transferred.
I called DVLA a year or 2 ago to enquire about R1 PUM for my bike (Yamaha R1). They told me £500, and said that was the standard price for plates with 1 number in. 2 numbers were £350 and 3 numbers were 250, they said. However, I think they keep back particularly nice plates and auction them, so they'll end up costing more.
A quick search at www.dvla-som.co.uk/ seems to indicate that they generally charge £999 for plates with TVR suffix.
