Clutch slavecilinder, getting rid of trapped air
Discussion
After changing my leaking slave cilinder it turned out that the pipe was also leaking, it was vibrating against a bolt and had sprung a small leak.
Everything is fixed now, there's only one problem left, getting rid of the air that is trapped in there somewhere. I have tried the usual methods and they did not help. I have even tried filling it from underneath the car through the (excuse my English) "trapped air release thingy" on the cilinder. I tried filling it with one of these pressurised things they use in garages. I can use the clutch, but it releases just barely.
There must be a "secret" TVR method of releasing the trapped air.
Any tips and hints are VERY WELCOME.
Cheers,
Fred
Fred,
I know it sounds straight forward, but it should release naturally through gravity as the reservoir is baove the slave.
It might mean quite a few pumps of the pedal, but this is what has done it for mine in the past.
As for the pipe, a had a braided one made up through Tower View as mine kep fracturing at the slave nipple. Never had a problem since.
The only other comment would be ..... was the clutch no problem before, or is it another problem ?
Cheers

Hi Mark,
Never had any previous problems with the clutch, it all started when the slave cilinder started to loose oil. When I installed the new cilinder you have to fiddle with the pipe, at that point the already weakened pipe sprung a leak at the point were it was rubbing against the bolt. So it was a case of bad luck......
I thought about changing the pipe against a braided hose, like my brake hoses, but I thought that would be to expensive, braided hoses cost a fortune over here.
You mention that gravity might do the job, well the gravity over here must be a lot less then yours because after pumping the pedal (feels like a milion times) many times, nothing has happened.
I'm trying to find a garage tomorrow who has one of those machine for getting trapped air from ABS brake systems, you know them pulsating ones.

It doesn't. However if the bleed nipple is below the pipe then the air stays trapped in the top of the cylinder. The nipple needs to be above the pipe to get the air out. Page 224 in the bible.

Hi Steve,
According to your excellent books (I have both), I mounted the nipple above the pipe. Still can't get the trapped air out by hand / foot. I'm trying to find a local garage with nifty mechanic who can do the job for me before I loose my mind.

Hi Fred
Did mine last week, one bleed with easy bleed (orange pipe) tighten nipple all done... sorry
are you using 5.1 ?
Yep, 5.1 in the clutch and the brake system. I have bled the da&*^ thing 10 times now. It's finaly getting to the point like it was before. Had it on one of those "professional" bleed systems, the mechanic gave up after about an hour.
The pedal feel is about 85 % of what is was before, I may leave it at that.
Thanks for all the support.
