Not that I've ever doubted what I'm told or read about the Griff's performance, output, facts or figures , I thought I'd at least try to quantify for myself just one thing: what does it really weigh?

Buddies with somewhat portlier means of conveyance tell me that it's gotta be approaching the 1200 KG figure. Naah, it weighs exactly what it says on its GRP tin (and owners handbook): 1060 KG - on the button, and that included 1/5th tank of gas, the usual garbage in the boot and a lead key fob. Confirmed on a recently calibrated weigh-bridge.

May be of interest to those who're obsessed with power to-weight-ratio's of course but I just wanted to shut some to**ers up............Job Done!

Good news, maybe there`s more truth in the factory claims than I thought....340bhp my armpit....ha...!
Anyone got an actual flat-out speedo reading? The factory "167" must be very scary if actually possible - mine gets fidgety and un-aerodynamic after 130 (on private test tracks of course)....

I had my old griff over 160 going up a slight incline-it wasnt as stable as my previous chim was,so i wouldnt doubt you could see 167 on the speedo. However the speedo on this car and my current griff, runs some 10% higher than my gps,so the real speed is much lower.Unfortunately,my current griff has the lower gearing,so i cant go as fast in top as my old one,i'd like to know if this is the diff ratio,or the 5th gear ratio?

I saw very nearly 150 with the rood down on Friday (down the runway at Yeovilton).
Full Tank of fuel (not optimax either), mate in the pax seat and a 10-15 knot headwind.
Standard '98 Griff 500.
So, with a better day and the roof up, 167 might be possible.

Thanks for that on the weight. I have been wondering what it really was. That should shut a few people up!

As for the speedo I have seen 170 on my speedo with the roof down and it felt very stable.
On another occasion I have also seen above 160MPH on the speedo and had it laser verified as 150MPH.
(Roof down and air flow meter problems at Vmax!).

I have also seen my speedo as being approx 10%-12% out with a GPS device.

Note: All recorded on runways of course.

Edited: Just wanted to add that I really did think it was very stable at the top end speeds too. After reading lots of threads on here it surprised me as a lot of Chim owners were saying they felt unstable above 130MPH. I put it down to the Griff aerodynamics but perhaps its just geometry setups instead.

I have done a few long distance European blats and maintained a good average speed without too much sweat on my palms!

Out of interest, do you guys all have your front splitters in place and intact?

No, splitter long gone.
I thought mine was stable too - was expecting the front end to get a little light, but no problems at all.

I have a metal splitter but not an original one, I made it myself out of then galvanised steel. (then enough to bend rather than rip the bottom off the car!).
I makes no difference to the handling though but probably because its been sat in the corner of my garage and not yet been on the car!

The only change up the front is a smaller number plate.
Makes no difference to stability but masses of difference to the temperature. The cabin no longer gets hot.
Very surprising but it makes a world of difference.

I've been down the runway at Bruntingthorpe a few times and at VMax just over a year ago the Griff went through the traps and showed 164 on the display board. Now I hasten to admit that there was a following wind that day which undoubtedly helped but that was with 3/4 a tank of fuel and a passenger so in my mind it's certainly possible.

Two years ago I passengered Paul in the TMS Griff, engine a genuine 300bhp, top down, genuine 161mph. It sat at that for most of a mile before braking. Top up? maybe a few more so 167 looks possible.

Top up/down makes a massive difference to the top speed. I took my car to Germany where I work and would drive at 150+mph everyday and you really notice the difference when you do it so often.

Of course the roof could always come off on its own at those types of speeds!!! That'd slow you down and sh*t you right up!!!!
