Fog Light Indicator

Noticed recently that the dashboard LED for the fog lights doesn't light up when the fog lights are on.

Is this an MOT fail (going for MOT in a week or so)? I seem to remember from owning a grey import that the aftermarked fog light switch had to light up for the SVA etc.

Just trying to figure out if I need to dismantle the dash in a hurry, or after MOT time.

I am pretty sure it wont fail the MOT. Had mine done and they didnt even check the dash indicators. As long as the fog light works I am sure it will be OK.

They failed mine on that........

It was only due to me pushing the radio in a bit sharpish and catching one of the wires and pulling it off the back of the indcator lamp!

Went back and they passed it the next day.

Technically it is a fail - when I took mine (1996 Griff 500) for its last MOT the tester pointed it out to me, but kindly said that he wouldn't fail it and haul me back for such a minor thing - and anyway if it were his he wouldn't be driving it in weather so crap as to need fog lights!

I promised to have it fixed for next year, and shortly after the alarm cooked itself (literally). Whilst HL Gorners had the dash out to replace the alarm and the wiring/multiplugs it had fried in the process, they fixed the foglamp warning light problem too - a corroded wire that had broken away from the bulb holder.

Not sure how easy it is to fix yourself - the Griff Bible (SHPub) warns of potential traumas in getting dash in & out, and the Tech at Gorners did say there is "a knack to doing it", in other words a real swine unless you have said knack!

Indeed it is! In fact, it seems it was exactly this "trauma" that broke it the last time I tried to get behind the dash! Seems I'd disconnected one of the wires. So, went through the trauma again today and fixed this. As a bonus I also fixed the central locking light, which was suffering the same issue!

What with this, replacing my glove-box catch, and Renovo colouring and sealing my roof today, it's been a heluva productive day!

Well, I had to do something to take my mind off not driving it today (leaking radiator so no hooning aimlessly until I get it replaced).
