Protection against stone chips in arches

Having just had a full respray I want to protect the inner arches, rear edge only, front and rear, as before the car was repaired and sprayed the rear bottem edge of the arch had took a good battering.
I recall someone had fitted some metal to stop anything getting onto the outrigger but can't find it.
Could I sikaflex a piece of black plastic or metal to the rear of the front and rear arches?

There is a rubberised coating that the kit-car boys use on the inside of single-skin mudguards etc. to stop stone damage (which can cause star cracks that show through to the outside). Might be what you're after?

Can't remember the name of it, though: Rubberlife or Rubbercoat or something like that, I think. You could try asking in the kit-car forum.
